Description: I think this shot shows what wonderful versatile film Efke IR820 is. At the base of the tree it's almost dark and in the canopy around 15/20 meters above me brilliant sunshine yet the film gives a readable image throughout. I took the shot three times at different shutter speed settings, all at F22 aperture with shutter speeds of 15/30/60 seconds. At 15 seconds the lower parts of the trunk were underexposed, black, no detail. At 60 seconds the treetop was overexposed, white, no detail. Developed in D-76 for 8 minutes @20c, negative scanned with an Epson V500 scanner. Thanks for looking, Phil.

Zoom Rotate II

Description: Hi. I Took some more experimental shots using zoom rotate, turning the zoom while the shutter is open and pan scanning, turning the camera through a horizontal plane while the shutter is open. I got nothing worthwhile from the pan scanning but a few from the zoom rotate were ok. Film developed in D-76 for 8 mins at 20c. Phil.

Description: Hi, Taken at the Parque Cidade last week. Developed in D76 for 8.5 mins @20c. Negative scanned with a Epson V500. P.P. converted to RGB a tiny amount of blue added in CS4 colour balance. Phil.

Third Time Lucky

Description: Two weeks ago I bought a Yashica Mat TLR, more info here http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Yashica_6%C3%976_TLR_(crank_advance) the first 2 rolls of film I used were a complete disaster, no images at all. I read on the internet about the cameras regular fault of shutter speed slower than what it has been set to. The next film I took the first 6 exposures at 1 stop faster than my light meter said then the last 6 2 stops faster and hey presto images.

Carnival Is Over

Description: Carnival is over, the digital camera goes away for another 12 months ;~) back to black and white cityscapes. While my wife kept a hair appointment at Shopping Tatuape, Sao Paulo, I took the Mamiya RB67 with a roll of Fuji Acros 100 loaded for a walk round the roof top car park before it started to rain. Developed in D-76 for 8 mins @20c. Digital photography is a lot of fun, but I don't think it will catch on ;~)

Carnaval 2011. 8

Description: About the last for carnival 2011. This has been my second year of photographing carnival and a lot more successful than last year. Last year I tried to use a flash gun, unfortunately this caused lots of problems. With so much tinsel so many sequins and mirrors the flash was bouncing straight back and burning lots of images. This year I relied on available light a fast ISO, mostly 1600 with a lot better results. Phil.

Description: Taken at carnaval parade here in the city I live in, Jundiai. The samba schools are smaller, 1000/1500 participants compared to Sao Paulos 2000/4000 participants. But they lack non of the colour or enthusiasm. P.P. work, crop and reduce for WPF.

Description: Another shot from the sambadrome, Sao Paulo on Sunday night. It is a wonderfully well organised event with free buses, courtesy of Sao Paulo City Hall, to and from the sambadrome from main bus terminals in the city. With car parking, if you can find any, at around R$50 (�17) it's well worth leaving the car at home.

Description: Carnival is not only about the individual Kings, Queens and Princesses. Each school also has between 2000 for the smaller schools up to 4500 largely anonymous dancers. here I selected one of them at random as a tribute to the part they play in making carnival parades the wonderful spectacle they are.

Description: Hi. Taken at the Sambadrome, Sao Paulo last night. There were eight samba schools parading from 9:30 pm onwards each school has one hour on the concourse, this hour is the culmination of a years preparation and is a wonderful spectacle. No editing here only reduced for WPF. I will upload some more shots over the next few days.

Zombie Walk Sao Paulo 2010

Description: Hi. Last November we went on the fifth annual Zombie Walk in Sao Paulo. Around 4000 people dressed as zombies or characters from horror movies, a great opportunity for some colour photography. Unfortunately my D50 decided to malfunction. A friend had recommended Kodak T Max 100 for use in my Holga camera. I had a couple of rolls with me to experiment with. I think they give a 1950's 60's Hammer House Of Horror atmosphere.

Description: Hi. On Tuesday we had a tremendous thunderstorm, it lasted about eighteen hours and dropped the entire month of September's rain on us. Not a lot you can do in rain like that. I set my camera up on the balcony, set the aperture to F22/27 put a NDF 8 filter on and set the ISO to 200, the slowest possible with a D50 and started firing away. I was getting exposure times of between 6 to 20 seconds. My third shot, bingo! got it. not a very exciting lightening shot, but at least a pic. I then spent another five hours and not a thing apart from nearly 400 deleted shots.

Description: Hi. Here in Jundiai we have a railway museum, nothing spectacular or anything to get excited about. At the back of the museum there are some old engines and rolling stock quietly rotting away, surrounded by lush foliage I thought it could work with infra red. Yesterday I ran of a roll of Efke IR820 Aura off. Developed in ID-11 for 8 minutes @ 68f.

Description: Hi. One of my students on the last day of an intensive English coarse he had just completed. The coarse runs for four nights a week for four weeks. The picture was taken using a Centon flash, the flash is pointed at the ceiling so the reflected light is dispersed giving a softer look and cutting out shadows behind the subject.

Testing Flash

Description: Hi. A few years ago I bought a Centon flash gun in a sale, I never got the hang of using it, after nearly causing permanent eye damage to a couple of friends with it I put it in a box with a notice on "To be looked at again later" Last year I read somewhere about pointing a flash gun at the celling so the light is reflected giving a more natural look to shots and removing shadows of walls behind subjects. A couple of days ago I gave the idea a try. This is a picture on the wall in our apartment, I like how the reflected flash has left texture and natural colour in the pic.

Description: July is a windy month here in Brazil, it is traditionally a time for kite flying. Children aged three to eighty three gather to fly kites. I haven't managed a shot of any kite flyers yet but thought this flag on a public building looked wonderful against the blue sky.

Description: Hi. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours Trying to photograph Hummingbirds. I did not even manage to view one through my camera, let alone get it into focus. I thought these flowers looked wonderful against the sky and it was a nice day.
