Cloning

This is for daedal he said the photo would look better with the fence cloned out. Well I have done it and it wasn't easy. I havn't used any other tool except for the cloning tool.

Canis Vulpes 25-04-06 20:02

Christine, you have the patience of a saint. Brilliant work.

Annette 25-04-06 22:07

Indeed. It must have taken quite some time. Now we can see the lion much better. Excellent work, well done.

Subzero 25-04-06 22:22

Well done Christine, you even managed to remove all the shadows of the rails, I now know where to send any difficult images that need cloning!!!
regards Subzero

Saphire 25-04-06 22:26

Thanks all. It was the most difficult one I have done so far, the railings weren't to bad it was the shadows that were the hardest, trying not to clone out the wrong one's.

Chris 26-04-06 17:40

Wow Christine! You have done an amazingly good job and I really go for the freed lion.

I hope it hasn't caused too much grief and I must watch what I say, as I often merely jest. Didn't know there was an actual cloning tool, I just cut and paste about and occasionally smudge. Must see if it is in PS elements as I usually use a mac only prog which is getting a bit ancient.

Saphire 26-04-06 17:43

As far as I know Chris there is a cloning tool in elements, someone should correct me if there isn't. By the way I like a challenge.:D

Nigel G 26-04-06 18:52

Its definitly there in Elements2 and I can't believe they took it out in later versions.

Chris 26-04-06 21:39

Thank you, will look as soon as wildflowers stop popping up on our lawn faster than I can photograph them

nirofo 26-04-06 23:03

Cloning intricate objects out of a photograph can be extremely time consuming and frustrating to obtain a quality result, Christine has done a very good job with this subject!

Any chance of pointing me to where? I am still on 2 as I find the whole prog an abomination and it wants re-installing to get a 'help' menu.

Saphire 27-04-06 13:49

Do you have the following type toolbar in elements the one highlighted is the clone tool.

Nigel G 27-04-06 13:55

Yes - the elements one is similar but without quite as many tools but the clone "stamp" is the same.

No, my tool bar has nothing below the foreground/background colours.

However, I will do a re-install and/or see what further help given on the Adobe web-site. It is very kind of you to help, but please don't take any more time just now. Things that are standard on PC sometimes need a plug-in or some such on mac.

Chris

The clone/stamp tool should appear above the foreground/background colours not below it - see attachment. The buttons below on PS are for quick mask and screen modes

Chris 27-04-06 20:19

Thank you Clive. The problem with using the PS E2 help was that it goes hunting for Explorer, which I bin whenever I find a copy has sneaked onto my computer, but opening it from Firefox, I have now found the instructions and seen that the 'clone stamp' is an alternative to the 'pattern stamp' tool...however I think I will continue with my own technique which is copying and pasting what I want.

An example below which is a sister shot to
http://www.worldphotographyforum.com...500&ppuser=780
but with the handrail cloned out my way

Excellent job done on that one.

Enjoy ;)

I do wish you hadn't done that - I was going to bed until I read that :)

robski 30-04-06 23:25

LOL - A good effort

:D

Reminds me of when I did a similar job for Annette (she didn't ask me, I just thought I'd get some practice). Took me hours and hours in the end. Serves me right!

Although this is a simple example, I used the technique for this picture for the ' nostalgia ' thread.

I wanted to illustrate the pistol grip attached to a camera and wanted a better than plain background to suit the thread subject.

The join between the pistol grip and tripod head had to be cleaned up at 600 magnification dealing with individual pixels to give it the sharp edge. Cloning straight lines on the diagonal takes a bit of time to get it right. Despite the nice sky it started to spit with rain when I took this so there was also bit of tidying up to be done, rain drops on the prism top and lens.

Don

Excellent job done, Don.
