Well a great selection of macro/close up shots this week but my favorite goes to Adey Baker and his Red Veined Darter. The sharply defined insect against a beautifully mottled background makes this one stand out for me.

Many thanks, Nigel
Red-veined Darter is one of my favourite dragonfly species. They're uncommon migrants in the UK with some staying to breed. I was lucky enough to find the first one recorded in my home county of Leicestershire and have seen several subsequently. Similar to Common Darter, they always seem more brighter and colourful to me and their colours catch the light of the southern European countries, where they're most abundant, perfectly. This one was near the telegraph post in the shot below, above the town of Garda near Lake Garda, Italy. Photogaphing wildlife around an olive grove in Italy on a warm, sunny day - it's a hard life but somebody's got to do it!:) |
Excellent choice & shot perfect DoF along the body & perch with diffuse background.
