Nikon D50 - Flash Not Working

Hello,

Ive been using a Nikon D50 to take my photos with, which you see on the site. I got given the camera as a very kind present due to the fact the previous owner bought a new camera as the this cameras flash stopped working.

I can use the camera without it no problem but at night and in dark places its a bit of a pain.

If i go into Menu:

I then go down the list and it says FLASH MODE but its grey and unclickable and is set to TTL and flash intensity is 0.0?

It seems a common problem with Nikon Cameras that the internal flash just stops working?

Is there a way to fix this? or a place i can get a replacement bulb? or flash for cheap from?

I guess the shooting mode selected may be disabling internal flash. Set the camera to P (Programmed Auto) and check the menu again or press the shutter release in a dark place to induce flash.

Nikon's are usually built quite well and should be quite reliable although all things may fail at some point.

In P mode the flash wont pop up unless i press the flash button on the side of the flash. However it lets me change the settings of the flash, yet none do anything.
If i put it into auto the flash pops up but no flash happens and instead it trys to keep the lense open for longer in dark areas.

Ive just found this tutorial which sounds similar to what my camera is doing:

Although the flash pops up, when i press the button to take a photo in, i hear a clicking noise which is the lever near the flash which i assume releases it.

Im a bit worried about unscrewing the two screws by the flash,i dont wnat to break the camera?

I think a specialist repairer or send it to Nikon. You need to be aware that if charged, flash circuits can give you a fair old belt if you come into contact with the circuit.

Not something I would even consider playing with.

I did have a go myself, but can't even open the bloody screws they are so small!!

Where is a good place to take my camera? I dont want to pay a large sum of money for the flash to be fixed as its only something small by the sounds of it.

Is there not an option there for ITTL? I dont have my D50 to hand at the moment but i will check tomorrow.
Have you tried various shutter speeds, the flash wont work at certain shutter speeds?
You dont need to press the flash button on the side to get the flash up, i just pull it up. My flash did not work at one time and i pulled up the flash and pressed that flash button on the side and it worked. It might be worth you trying that. Or doing a factory settings restore.

ive done a factory settings restore and the flash pops up however it does not fire. I think its a faulty wire inside the camera itself. I just need to find out how much it would cost to be fixed?
