Thanks Charles and Harry. Glad I hadn't missed a trick. I've always used a usb cable - upgrading the ports when available- and ,touch wood, have had no problems with wear.

I've made a similar reduction on Flickr so now I'll keep it a bit longer. Also backed up to remote HDD and I'm using Amazon though I worry about that.

That rings a bell with me. I'm often disappointed to find that a "classic" cannot be separated from surrounding clutter,vehicles,people.
