They wouldn't give AF - the Canon is f5.6 at the long end and the Sigma f6.3 IIRC. Add a stop for a 1.4x TC and you're outside the AF spec of the camera.

I don't know which make/model TC would...

I'm not sure if they've changed the material across the whole range or just on some flavours/markets. Certainly they used to be more opaque than the last few I've seen.

Thanks Norm, I see that but can't understand why this is preferable to composing at the picture-taking stage?
Surely if I just rattle off shots and rely on fixing the composition when I get home...

I don't quite understand the point of this - surely it's better to do the composition in the camera?
As to the photofinishers, don't they just print what you supply?
