Thanks, I tried that and it seems to be okay. I actually removed to keytops from each shift key and part of the key mechanism and used a high power vacuum cleaner (Dyson DC15) with crevice tool. Amazingly I pulled half our cat worth of fur from in between the keys but nothing large to jam a key. The keys seemed clean when disassembled.

I must add our cat fights the laptop for my attention and warm lap in the evenings, its not uncommon for her to lie on the keyboard to gain attention
