Minimum focal distance & 1:1 ratio
Hi everyone,
I'd be grateful if someone could help clarify the above definitions for me. Firstly, am I correct in saying that the min focal distance gives the closest distance between the camera (end of lens?) and the subject? If this is the case, does the min focal distance (mfd) also give the distance at which a given macro lens will operate at 1:1? Therfore, as you increase your distance from the subject from the mfd you in turn reduce the magnification. Thanks, Andy

MFD is measured from the film or sensor plane to the subject. On many cameras bodies you will see a datum line indicating where this plane is.
