Default Started my new photography course last night

I mentioned a few months ago that I had applied to join a new course being launched at a prestigious art college near to me and that it was to start in Jan.

Well last night was my first night and I have to say that I am very impressed. We started in a classroom just with the usual enrolment stuff and then went on to the basics of the camera and how a camera actually works, every aspect which was very good as the processes were broken down into finer detail. Then we discussed why we chose to be there and our reasons for getting into it and what aspect of photography we like and why. It was fascinating listening to different peoples takes on photography and what it means to them.

We then went over to the dedicated photography block the other side of the campus and into the studios and photo editing area. I didn't expect to see so much equipment. They had a bench set up especially for Macro with many different mini lights, light and dark back drops and they even have their own lenses and attachments which was a big surprise. Then we had a look at the lighting studio which was the typical white background with lights everywhere. We were introduced to all of this with a view to spending more time there in the coming weeks.

We finished our first night in the photo editing studio going over our cameras and their functions. Understanding what the buttons are and the meanings of the features. We then had a brief overview of the meanings of ISO, Aperture, Focal length etc etc. I knew most of what was being said but it definitely gave me a better understanding of a few things.

Next week is a whole lesson dedicated to Aperture so I am really looking forward to that. Later in the lessons we will be going on a few road trips as a group to a local beauty spot and will be tasked with various things and then will be critiquing each other constructively like we do on here. All in all for what I paid and for what I expected, I was really blown away. I cant believe I will be given the opportunity to work in a full blown studio.

I shall keep you all up to speed.

Sounds very exciting indeed. Whets my appetite to see if there is anything similar in this neck of the woods but there is nothing prestigious that I know of round here.
