Default Canon 5D mkIII is now official

A long last the rumoured 5D mkIII has been announced and it looks like a winner. 22mp, 61 point AF system, 6fps and a claimed two stop improvement in high ISO noise... Shame about the launch price or I'd have snapped one up!

Very nice, just remember it is up against the new Nikon D800. All very academic to me as I can't afford one anyway but I am glad it is 'only' 22MP rather than the 36MP of the Nikon as the lenses can't resolve that much detail anyway so just makes for extra large files.
Perchance to dream.....

I'm also happy to see the mp count staying relatively low, though I don't see the lenses being an issue with a 36mp full frame camera as they cope with the 18mp cropped which have a higher pixel density. For me the resolution of the mkII is fine so I don't need more but the claimed two stop improvement in high ISO performance would be good. I often shoot at ISO3200 with no NR and can go to 6400 with a bit of processing, two stops better would almost remove the need for a flash.

Default 5D Mk111

Yes maybe too expensive but might bring down the cost of the MK11
interesting discussion about resolution though, detail of 18MP on a cropped like mine should equate to much more on a FF so may be 22MP is a bit low but file size would be a problem if much higher.
