I had ideal lighting (bright and overcast).
field craft to know when and where to find your beast. The beast was freshly emerged so they tend to remain static. I was very lucky with the pose and position of the beast. So it was really a case of having the luxury of plenty of time line up the shot. For this type of close up it is imported to get the lens parallel to the subject to ensure an even DOF across the body of the beast. It is a single shot, no stacking or tricks in processing. Heavy duty Tripod. Lens EF300mm f/4L IS USM with a minimum focus distance of 1.5m with makes a good lens for close ups of Butterfly sized insects. IS packed up last year which I rarely used as 99.9% of my shots with this lens are on tripod. So do I buy another lens or get it fixed ?? Wildlife is the only decent subject where I live, don't get glorious sunsets or landscapes. Getting out with the camera for a few hours on the push bike or walking part of my weekly exercise. ISO 400 F8 1/500 sec

Thanks for that. I'm just trying to get into wildlife and into landscape photography, 2 areas I'm not that good at. I can't see me ever being able to capture anything anywhere near the quality of yours. What area r u from?
