Default Resampling

I'm a little bit confused about resampling. I'd like to size down but want to maintain or increase the resolution by keeping the maximum number of pixels. Normally I size down to 1000 by whatever before I post pictures here with the resample box checked in PS7. That results in fewer pixels. How do other people do it? I can reduce the image size ( by changing dimensions) with resample unchecked and that maintains the number of pixels but that leaves images too big for the forum. Is there some sort of compromise?

I check the "resample" box. For viewing on a screen on a web page the loss of quality isn't noticable. I resize to 1024x whatever and then adjust the jpeg compression to give a file size ideally no more than 150K. If this means I have to use a lot of compression I "undo" the earlier resize, resize to 800x whatever and then save again. I think this gives a good compromise between file size and quality. Sometimes I have to push the file size up a bit higher (such as my Ely Cathedral 2 picture) but this is rare.

The size limit for posting here is a limit on the number of pixels. The image size to which you refer is purely there for printing.

So you'll just have to throw away them pixels.
