'bits' inside Canon lense
I have just purchased a 2nd hand 30D with 17-85mm EFS with I.S. I am happy with it and I know the person I purchased it off. However I am concerned that there are several small 'bits' inside the actual lense. I have tried photographing white paper and can see no problem-I have shown it to 2 professionals who assure me "there should be no problem" but every time I look at it-it worries me. Can anyone advise me:-
a)Is this normal ? b)Can I get it cleaned and if so how much would I expect to pay? I have looked through the threads but cannot find any related topic-thanks in advance

I'm no expert but I had bits that got inside a couple of my old Canon FD lenses. The lenses are not sealed so stuff can get in and nothing ever showed up on photographs so unless it does I would leave well alone as it would probably be expensive to have the lens dismantled and cleaned and reassembled. Watch out for fungus though in lenses as that is a different story, best to store in low humidity if possible.

When I read the title, I had visions of screws and other things rattling around. Now I realise that you might mean little bits of dust and lint. If so, don't worry. All lenses get some dust inside. Non internal focussing zooms are the worst. I suppose weather sealed lenses should be dirt free.
If the dust is serious, it can lead to loss of contrast, and a clean is required. But that is I think unusual.

As long as your picture is fine, try to erase the spots from your mind (Hard for intelligent person like yourself).
You can clean it yourself if you have the right ranch to open the lens but then you risk possible misalignment etc that comes after the putting the lens together so as long as spot doesn't septate or grows (Fungus) just forget it and invest money needed for cleaning into the pool for future lenses/accessory.

Thank you for the advice.
I know I could phone up but does anyone know the approximate cost if I did want it cleaned professionally?
