You could end up with a long list. However, here's a few ideas that I've used:-
- A particular shape (circle, square, triangle, etc)
- Different textures
- A type of building (e.g. church) or part of building (door, window, roof) or unusual angle
- A particular human activity (e.g. using mobile phone)
- Low light or night shots
- Landscapes with a theme (rivers, bridges, etc)
- Tell a story (street market, fair, sports game, etc)

I'm sure that you'll get plenty of other suggestions

If you look back through past competition titles, I'm sure you'll find quite a few possibilities.
In addition it could be possible to pick a particular technique, Macro, Nightime, still life, infrared...

It depends somewhat on how wide a range of techniques you want to include - something such as RED would give the option of trying loads of different things. Do you want it to be a Jack of all trades approach or more a master of one.

I prefer JOT myself

Thank you Birdsnapper and Petrochemist, I like the idea of a building, maybe with something red such as a door and then i will be a jack of all trades. thank you very much.

You could also try looking back through the Gallery for ideas. Also look at photos on other photography sites. I'm sure you will find lots of good ideas. Good luck with the class.

If red, surely red in nature?? Red is a danger colour or can be a sexy colour. For me I would either explore the red is danger thing or the sexy side of red. Red lips, dresses, leboutins etc.

If you want ideas I think they should come within. Personally I am so sick of seeing beach scenes with rocks taken with slow exposures and singe trees in fields and mountains with mist. Its always the same old same old. Don't get me wrong, they are always stunning pictures but they were other peoples ideas. I think you need to have your own as you will develop your own distinct style anyway. I really like your red idea but it could be much more than red. You could explore colour and its different meanings in nature or suburbia. I work in Croydon and everyday I see something broken or damaged but I see them in a photographic light that could fit into a project where you look at broken Britain which would be a play on words hence broken.

I say walk around your local area and you will see something that inspires you.....

Good luck and do post your pics, I would love to see your final results!
