Christine,

Are you using the orange sitebuilder software to compile your web page(s)? This page:
http://help.orange.co.uk/documentDis...opValue=kb1021
specifically states that if you use sitebuilder, you cannot use ftp to transfer files.

Thanks Clive, Duncan.

Duncan, orange have two ways of making websites, one is by using the online sitebuilder which is very limited and another which allows you to use your own software, I am doing the latter.
I have just managed to get Filezilla to work, what was wrong I left the advanced setting in default mode when it should have been set to active, The software program I am using to create the site, doesn't have this setting to change so still can't up-load direct through that.
I have also downloaded Smartftp client to see if I can get online with that one but no go. At least now I can update without taking hours with Filezilla.

Like Gidders, I use WS-FTP95-LE and recommend it. I've been using it for several years and find it very easy.

Glad you got it sorted Christine, I used Filezilla with no problems until I got my router and I to be honest I haven't got enough use for it to sort it out, the Orange thingy is good enough for me.

I am back to not being able to maintain my site, all my settings were wiped out when I re-installed the program and I never wrote them down.

My sympathies, doesn't the above information ring any bells that might help or is it worth contacting your ISP for the details? Sorry might be going on old ground here. But you haven't lost anything on you web just your link details?

My ftp doesn't ask for an ftp address, it asks for the web site address which begins with www.
Fhe program is WFTP_95 and can be downloaded free.

Thanks Tony, Dan. I will keep playing with the settings until I get it right. I did take a snapshot of them which I have been searching for, but I just can't find it, its lost somewhere on my hardisks.
