Default Buying a Nikon D2x

In relation to my previous couple of posts what are the Good points and bad points (from what i've read so far not many - other than the price tag )of these cameras.

I'd be buying a used one so what are the things to look out for?

Thanks in advance
Alan

Hope I am answering this in the way you had hoped.

Good points
  • Amasing fast and accurate auto focus
  • Number of autofocus points (most cross type)
  • Shutter lag
  • Shutter return speed, you cannot tell it has fired and can compose shot immediately after the last.
  • resolution
  • viewfinder
  • feel and balance
  • construction, some say its good for over 100,000 actuations
  • auto focus motor torque (for screw type lenses)
Bad points
  • Noise, black noise is noticeable upward of ISO200 although grey noise is no existent upto ISO800 - careful exposure is the key
  • I have seen cases where the rubber components of the hand grip come off, this is due to either excessive use of sunscreen or acidic makeup of personal oils/sweat
  • need for good glass
  • resolution (demands excellent technique, unforgiving to mediocre/poor panning, camera technique)
Notes, this is an amasing camera when I first received mine I was in awe shocks at the difference between S2, never picked up the S2 since. Rubber component has never happened to me. After 15,000 actuations mine is in perfect order and like new condition. I struggled to write the bad points. Noise is not an issue, I believe unlike other cameras D2X has NO in camera noise reduction for low ISO's because of excellent single stage amplification of colour channels (check D2x brochure), Noise is easilly removed using Nikon Capture or Capture NX at very low application (2-3%)

I would have thought most former D2X owners really cared for their specimens so I would buy used with confidence.
