Default Focus

Just a quick question here guys - if i wanted to take a photo of two people standing side by side and you can see the background in the middle of them so they are standing apart, who do you focus on?

Hi Dazza, do you want the background in focus as well? If so how far back does it go? There is an old formula for lens focus which states that if you know what your depth of field is then one third in front of the subject will be in focus and two thirds behind.

Point camera at one of the people so person is in centre of frame, half-press and hold shutter button to get camera to focus on said person. Keeping buton half-pressed recompose image in viewfinder to get desired composition. Press shutter button all the way down (without releasing the half-press focus lock previously obtained).
