Jason,by the way,is the son of my husbands boss,they own the holiday home sites here in Haverigg.(Just in case you thought we had our own heli pad!!!!)<br /><br />3 comments Christine Sun, 13 Jan 2008 21:09:31 +0000 A proud father /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=27197 <a href="/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=27197" target="_blank"><img title="work-folder-025.jpg" border="0" src="/gallery/data/501/thumbs/work-folder-025.jpg" alt="work-folder-025.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: Christine<br /><br />Description: This a very special shot.We have a pair of Swans who have nested at the side of our river for 14 yrs.But sadly no eggs produced any offspring ,except for 2yrs ago.This little guy was born,and he was the apple of his dads eye.The female is much older than the Male which could possibly account for the fact that the eggs were not fertile,albeit the female sat on her eggs,for the full term,and it must have been so sad for the parents when no offspring arrived.But this little chap did appear,and rode around on his Dads back,whilst his Mum sat on the remaining eggs,hoping and waiting. I was unable to capture the whole of the Swan in the frame,as he was directly underneath me,as I leant over the river wall,but I was more interested on managing a shot of the cygnet as he sat up on his Dadas back,feeling safe and secure. The mining site is now our local nature reserve,a nesting area for breeding Terns etc,and a permanent home to many species of birds. I was messing around with this shot,and found a filter somewhere in Elements,applied it,and it actually highlights the amazing metallic colours which do show in the plumage of these birds when they catch the sun. The original shot which was one of my 1st shots using the 100-400 lens around 4 yrs ago,is on my website.
