Their buds, flowers and seedpods are unusual and interesting at all stages of their development.

2 comments Blue Wren Tue, 05 Dec 2006 05:18:27 +0000 Wide Waters re-submitted /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11355

by: Blue Wren

Description: I have previously submitted this photograph with much of the foreground water cropped out, but otherwise just as it came from the camera.I decided to try again, with the contrast increased (in Photoshop) and the foreground restored to give more of an impression of distance. I believe the image is unbalanced as it is - it needs a couple of swans in the left-hand quarter of the frame. However, I am a Photoshop novice, and I've lost the book that came with the software, so don't yet know how to add things. I'm interested in people's reactions to the contrast, however, and I'd like to hear any other suggestions people have for improving the image.

2 comments Blue Wren Tue, 05 Dec 2006 05:14:49 +0000 Grevillea /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11354

by: Blue Wren

Description: Red Grevillia flower head, photographed in natural light, in the deep shade under taller bushes.

3 comments Blue Wren Tue, 05 Dec 2006 05:01:11 +0000 White Wax Flower /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11269

by: Blue Wren

Description: An Australian native, this pure white Wax Flower grows in the bush near my home.

1 comment Blue Wren Sun, 03 Dec 2006 13:34:31 +0000 Blue on Blue /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11268

by: Blue Wren

Description: The tilted water surface is deliberate, but may well have been a mistake. This is something of a tester, to see whether or how much it irritates people. From the angle at which it was taken, straightening the waterline has the effect of making the trees appear to lean. Also, the boat looks better with a slight tilt.

2 comments Blue Wren Sun, 03 Dec 2006 13:29:53 +0000 Wide Water /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11267

by: Blue Wren

Description: Black Swans gather at the halfway mark, while in a trick of light a mirage makes the distant trees appear to float. Looking across the lower Murray River at Goolwa, shortly before it empties into the Southern Ocean. The overcast sky, reflected in the water, gave this shot almost a monochrome appearance. Should it be left as is, (my personal preference) or some colour added - what do other people think?

6 comments Blue Wren Sun, 03 Dec 2006 13:13:45 +0000 Branches of Eucalyptus Blossoms /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11070

by: Blue Wren

1 comment Blue Wren Tue, 28 Nov 2006 07:48:20 +0000 Eucalyptus Blossom /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11069

by: Blue Wren

Description: The blossom that emerges from the buds in a previous photo.

3 comments Blue Wren Tue, 28 Nov 2006 07:43:05 +0000 Eucalyptus buds /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11068

by: Blue Wren

Description: These are the buds of a weeping Eucalyptus tree. The marks on their surface are caused by strong winds blowing them against the tree trunk, causing surface bruising. This small slice of someone's life looked so fetching in the late afternoon sun that I had to photograph it. But would it be better if the uprights were absolutely vertical? What other improvements would others make?

4 comments Blue Wren Tue, 28 Nov 2006 07:23:12 +0000 Banksia Flower /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10948

by: Blue Wren

Description: A mature Banksia flower. This side faces the parking spaces, and over the years its every attempt to grow branches on this side has been thwarted by the chainsaws of the maintenance men. The old scars, and that fresh wound, so carelessly hacked, caught my eye, so I took this shot of its struggle for growing space. The photograph is posted here just as it came from the camera - what would other people have done? Would it be improved by intensifying the colours a little, or should it be left alone?

2 comments Blue Wren Sat, 25 Nov 2006 14:31:26 +0000 Coorong Dunes at Sunset /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10485

by: Blue Wren

Description: The last rays of the setting sun light a dune in the Coorong wetlands, South Australia

3 comments Blue Wren Thu, 09 Nov 2006 05:20:33 +0000 Begonia Flower /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10484

by: Blue Wren

Description: Begonia flowers just opening.

1 comment Blue Wren Thu, 09 Nov 2006 05:12:40 +0000 Wind the Sculptor /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10444

by: Blue Wren

Description: Wind-sculpted rock facing the Southern Ocean blasts, Granite Island, Victor Harbor, South Australia.

2 comments Blue Wren Tue, 07 Nov 2006 02:32:15 +0000 Smoky Sunset /gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10443

by: Blue Wren

Description: Taken from the Coorong dunes in South Australia.
