Description: In the car park of a local Woolworths supermarket, a lot of small Banksia trees have been planted. Their buds, flowers and seedpods are unusual and interesting at all stages of their development.

Description: I have previously submitted this photograph with much of the foreground water cropped out, but otherwise just as it came from the camera.I decided to try again, with the contrast increased (in Photoshop) and the foreground restored to give more of an impression of distance. I believe the image is unbalanced as it is - it needs a couple of swans in the left-hand quarter of the frame. However, I am a Photoshop novice, and I've lost the book that came with the software, so don't yet know how to add things. I'm interested in people's reactions to the contrast, however, and I'd like to hear any other suggestions people have for improving the image.

Description: The tilted water surface is deliberate, but may well have been a mistake. This is something of a tester, to see whether or how much it irritates people. From the angle at which it was taken, straightening the waterline has the effect of making the trees appear to lean. Also, the boat looks better with a slight tilt.

Wide Water

Description: Black Swans gather at the halfway mark, while in a trick of light a mirage makes the distant trees appear to float. Looking across the lower Murray River at Goolwa, shortly before it empties into the Southern Ocean. The overcast sky, reflected in the water, gave this shot almost a monochrome appearance. Should it be left as is, (my personal preference) or some colour added - what do other people think?

Eucalyptus buds

Description: These are the buds of a weeping Eucalyptus tree. The marks on their surface are caused by strong winds blowing them against the tree trunk, causing surface bruising. As these buds are woody and tough, the flowers will not be affected.

Doorway

Description: While waiting for my son, sitting in the car in Woolworth's car park, I found myself looking at this doorway across the road. This small slice of someone's life looked so fetching in the late afternoon sun that I had to photograph it. But would it be better if the uprights were absolutely vertical? What other improvements would others make?

Banksia Flower

Description: A mature Banksia flower. This is a compound flower, consisting of many tiny tubular flowers, The different colouring at the front of the flower head is the result of a patch of flowers that have opened fully, while the rest have still not opened up their petals. My apologies for the out-of-focus bee - this was not a cooperative creature.

Furry Wildflowers

Description: I have so far been unable to identify this wildflower, which grows abundantly in certain patches of bush. The furry surface makes it a little difficult to focus on, as it always looks fuzzy and out of focus through the camera.

Many Scars

Description: This little Eucalyptus tree was planted years ago at the margin of a supermarket car park. This side faces the parking spaces, and over the years its every attempt to grow branches on this side has been thwarted by the chainsaws of the maintenance men. The old scars, and that fresh wound, so carelessly hacked, caught my eye, so I took this shot of its struggle for growing space. The photograph is posted here just as it came from the camera - what would other people have done? Would it be improved by intensifying the colours a little, or should it be left alone?
