Reflection on Ice

Description: While in the conservatory I had just packed the camera in the bag when I noticed this wagtail landing on the ice.........it was a rush to set up and I just managed to get this before it flew off. (I sent it to the local paper-Warrington Guardian-and was pleased to see the printe it although badly cropped so it lost the refelction)

Description: I was browsing the graveyard of a church in Yorkshire when I saw this sign-it's a genuine invitation but badly placed. There are lots of captions that could be added.

Description: This is St. Elphins church of Warrington. Built 1363-the spire which is 86 mtrs high was added in 1867. For several years (since getting back into photography) I have thought "if the weather/clouds were right it could make a good subject" so this week I made the effort & time to have a go. I have several shots I like but thought this one evocative.

"There's an old mill by the stream"

Description: This is part of the old mill adjacent to the River Bollin at Styall (Cheshire).It dates back to the 1700's and is packed with history of young ex-workhouse kids 9 yrs old working from 6.00 through 8.00 pm 6 days a week. On Sunday they walked to church in clogs (twice) = 10 miles in all weathers and then had religious lessons back at the mill. Apparently this was good treatment compared to other mills where the kids started age 7yrs and the average life span was 23 yrs.

The Spooky Tree

Description: I've walked past this tree several times and thought "how spooky" it's shape was.......so I have tried to capture it. It's in Marbury Country Park (Cheshire). Oh-it was dusk and I had no tripod (is that a CARDINAL SIN?) so 1600ISO needed.

Description: A beautiful potted plant-I found it very difficult to do it justice. Most of my photography is birds (on Bird Forum) or insects but this year I am trying to expand and learn. One thing I learned today is that it's not as easy as I thought it would be. I must have shot 75 frames-in the conservatory, outside, with the sun/against the sun, with background & without.......my wife thinks I've gone loopy.

Description: Chester Zoo had a new arrival recently and we were proviledged to see it yesterday. Dad is being kept away for the safety of the cub which is so young they don't know the sex as yet.

Description: Macro has added such a lot to my photo interests. Even in ones own garden it is amazing what there is (always been there but now I am seeing them!!) Some subjects are more scary in macro than we can imagine

Description: I have now had the macro lense for a week or two and (sort of) getting the hang of it. Difficult to get the right speed AND D.O.F. isn't it. I haven't tried a tripod yet-goodness knows how people do that on moving subjects!!!

Description: Being relatively new digital and very new to macro I couldn't resist it when we got some snow-out in the garden looking for something to photograph. Macro is more difficult than I imagined!!
