The Visit of St Jude

Description: A few weeks ago the UK was visited by the remains of Atlantic storm nicknamed St Jude... I took the change to get down to the coast to capture the waves hitting the small lighthouse at Porthcawl. It was very windy and it meant constantly wiping the lens..great to see though

Description: Out for a drive one evening I couldnt help but stop on the side of the road and take some shots of some approaching strom clouds...5 mins later I was stood in the rain - camera in the car and smiling..love the summer rains :)

Description: The image apart from the colour gradient added is nearly as it was - I have also cloned out the rope I was stood on that was anchoring the boat in position ! A misty morning on Llangorse lake - the blue hues didnt do it for me so I played abt as they say.

A Common Sunrise

Description: ...Actually this is not a very common sunrise around here, quite the opposite really (its raining again as I look out the window) but the title is because this is the place it was taken from. Earlier in the week I was sat at the pc and looked out the window and thought the clouds looked like they might have some colour in them when the sun came up. Grabbed my gear and headed for the moors which is about a 10 mins drive from here. I was not disappointed either...I had intended to shoot a tree that I know but the area was in a valley rift that missed the colour n light coming up...I made do with the common and the frosty reed grass that was about as my foreground. It lacks focal point but I think the sky is worth sharing with you...I had a couple of grads on the front ned and have had to actually tone down the colour somewhat !!

Winter at Llangasty

Description: My good friend Bill (Whimbrel) is very astute and his observation about my love and affinity with water is very true.....and so yesterday on a cold and misty morning I made my way down to Llangorse Lake - it was not a photographic day at the side of the lake...not even an ethereal bird in the mist to be had so I turned the car around and went back up the Country lane....then I passed a gate and saw this scene... I looked and looked but apart from the mist slinking its way through the trees no water was to be found - I have broken my spell with water William hope you like it....but wait, today was different ........to be continued :o)

Description: Yep, living where I do it difficult to get a way from the wet stuff...mind, we do have compensation for all the rain we suffer...lush green fields (well boggy mires atm) and wonderful waterfalls like this.

Dipper

Description: Earlier in the year I had chance to photograph one of my favourite birds, a Dipper (cinclus cinclus). A small Robin like river bird. They get their name from the "dipping" you see them doing when they are perched on rocks and stones on the river. You see them swimming/walking under shallow running streams looking for flies n stuff...when I took this I was stood waist high in a small rock pool - luckily I was wearing waders...a memorable day for sure.

Sunset at Tall Trees

Description: Because of its location there is little chance of this place seeing a sunrise or a sunset which is a major shame as I keep seeing an image in my head....so with that in mind I have been practising with layers this week and yesterday worked on a composite of a recent shot of theb place - and added a sky in from a nash point shoot a few weeks ago...never done more than two layers before but got up to about 6 or 7 with this...and could have kept going in trying to make it better. In the end I gave up at point on the attached image. There is an image I think could wortk at this location, just need the right conditions and some major luck...you will see it if it ever happens !!

Tall Trees

Description: Took this shot a few days ago...had gone to a retail parc to do some shopping and as I came out of the shops I thought, ah nice skies...I was on the A470 which is the road the runs through the beacons so I thought I would go for a drive...unfortunately as I got higher so the clouds turned. I got out of the car and made my way to the spot I wanted to photograph...by the time I had set up the tripod the rain had started to fall. No umbrella so water droplets got on most of the shots...will revisit this spot as I think it has potential. Description: Crossed the river further upstream from these falls (off with the socks n shoes and yes it was cold) and made our way back to the vantage point on the other side....the noise down there is thundering loud. Description: The weather has been grey n overcast the last few days, real miserable stuff - just right for some waterfall images. Had 3 trips out at various locations in the Brecon Beacons and come back with a few that I like. This was taken in the beautiful Clydach Gorge which is not very far from home. To get to the falls I wanted though I had to cross the river...didn't take my wellies so me and a mate took out boots off and paddled across very carefully...the rocks are very slippery and it was freezing!

Morning Light

Description: A few weeks ago I was on my way to an early morning shoot in a local quarry. As I got out of the car the weather was not looking very promising as it was about 95% cloud and no sign of anything developing...then I noticed some gorgeous light across the valley landing on a field...I quickly grabbed the camera which fortunately had the 70-200mm lens on and took a couple of shots of this and one of a mountain plateau to my left. Then as I was putting the camera back in the bag I suddenly an appointment I had back home - and had to get back in the car and drive home...lol. Luck I suppose driving to that spot and getting a few shots like that as I think the weather closed in so the quarry stuff wouldnt have been any good!

Description: Thanks for the great response to my last image. Here is another one from that trip away...up in the Snowdonia range there are many lakes and this is one I have visited quite a few times. Used my ten stop filter as the clouds were moving through pretty fast...colour added in ps for moodiness.

Description: Had a few days away with my wife last week to North Wales...weather was changeable but was lucky enough to have some decent weather when visiting this gorgeous lake. Situated between the Mawddach Estuary and the Cadair Idris mountain range at approximately 800ft it really is a precious little gem in this part of North Wales.

Description: A couple of weeks ago I was out looking for dragonflies and came across 3 guys training their dogs to retrieve....they were up on a hill throwing balls down into a river and trees....considering the distances and how tangled it was in there the dogs were doing great...grabbed a couple of shots with them and the bright sky cried out for this to be turned into a silhouette image...hope you like.
