A very healthy looking fern, I doubt very much if its roots will ever be dry. The atmosphere down there was a bit like a rain forest (I would imagine), so if my glasses weren't steamed up then my lenses were. Still it did mean that there was no point in rushing. This image is of Sgwd Ddwli, a very wide waterfall and under quieter conditions has a lovely calm pool at its base with lovely amber stones shining through clear water. The sun was flitting in and out so it was quite ideal. Parked myself on a rock in the middle of the river, well perhaps not quite the middle. This was another visit to Broad Pool but the comfort of the duvet was too great for me to be there before dawn today so I got there just as the final traces of mist disappeared. From there you can see for miles and it looked as if Broad Pool would be the best location. The trick is to get there when they are really at their best and this year I was lucky. The air is heady with the smell of garlic and you can just lose yourself in your photography. All around there were moss clad tree trunks and a completely covered dry stone wall. Sadly, to get the marriage of foreground and background light was not possible on this afternoon. This was really the only day when a dawn shoot was remotely possible, the wind was strong and quite biting and the sun showed itself briefly and occasionally, nevertheless it was good to be there! I was crouched down on the shore of Lochan Drumrunie, my feet gradually getting colder but, what the hell, I had this spectacle opening up in front of me and it was magical. Not one of those full-in-your-face sunrises which makes you go 'WOW' with incredulity but a nice gentle stillness that puts you at peace with the world. The river Usk runs through and is crossed by many bridges, some modern, some older but all very distinctive. The Angel is an inn offering both food and liquid refreshment so there is a reward at both ends of this walk. We were to meet back at the Sligachan Hotel at lunchtime so, rather downcast I made my way back, by the time I got to the bridge I was presented with this. The weather had settled so we made our way down to the shore and this was my result. Had been out to Rhossili in the morning but was completely uninspired. A few hours after I got home the sky opened up and showed promise so back I went.
