A Cosy Bed

Description: I was exploring a wood I had never visited before and it was early on New Years Day, it seemed as if everyone was nursing the result of the previous night's revellry. So peaceful - that is until a nearby dog sensed my presence and started its ceaseless barking. I ambled quietly away from him along the path trying my best to hang on to my sense of peace.I rounded a corner, the dog became silent and I spotted this.

A Queue of Fungi

Description: Just having a quiet stroll down at the salt marshes on Gower, a bit misty and nothing much of interest until I saw this out of the corner of my eye. I had to move aside some brambles and struggle in to get the shot but I think it was worth it.

Rock-Pile Glow

Description: One of the massive piles of rock in this area situated as if it was standing guard over the valley. I was waiting for a sunset but a bank of cloud was massing on the horizon to the right of me but luckily the sun lit this up for me before it hid itself from view.

Description: The last one from Padley Gorge (or the first if you're reading them backwards). A very healthy looking fern, I doubt very much if its roots will ever be dry. A longish exposure gives a nice swirl in the water.

Small Falls

Description: We had walked up a steep but fairly solid path then, when we had generated enough heat in ourselves, we slithered down a steep and slippery path to the river. The atmosphere down there was a bit like a rain forest (I would imagine), so if my glasses weren't steamed up then my lenses were. Still it did mean that there was no point in rushing. This was my first after returning to what I would consider normality.

Description: After trying several times over the last couple of years to find the best position to take an image here it struck me today that the best position was from the path. Fortunately, being Monday there were no walkers and I had a good 20 mins of peace and quiet to get my shot.

Peaceful Canal

Description: A quiet moment on the Neath Canal although, being the start of bike week, streams of eager cyclists are flying by to my left and I have a guilty feeling that I should be amongst them. So I find a way to help the guilt pass quickly, almost as quickly as the cyclists!

Sgwd Ddwli

Description: Another walk up the Neath Valley this afternoon but a bit more water running today after the heavy rains at the weekend. This image is of Sgwd Ddwli, a very wide waterfall and under quieter conditions has a lovely calm pool at its base with lovely amber stones shining through clear water. Not today though - but that is what makes life exciting, you just never know quite what to expect.

Sgwd Gwladys Monster

Description: I admit it doesn't have quite the same ring to it as the Loch Ness Monster but there I was taking a quiet photograph of the falls and this thing intruded into the foreground. It has, of course nothing to do with the fact that this spot is but a stone's throw from the Penderyn Distillery.

Green Waters

Description: Spent the middle part of the day with the world and his aunt (or is it her aunt) wandering up the Nedd Fechan. The sun was flitting in and out so it was quite ideal. Parked myself on a rock in the middle of the river, well perhaps not quite the middle. In spite of an acute problem with a loose tripod I was quite pleased with this one so I came home to do some remedial work on the three-legged wonder.

Reeds and Infant Water Lillies

Description: I must remember to pay another visit in about a month's time when the flowers start opening. This was another visit to Broad Pool but the comfort of the duvet was too great for me to be there before dawn today so I got there just as the final traces of mist disappeared. The midges were very active so I didn't stay long - I thought I'd left them behind until I uploaded the images and found what looked like an extremely large one on the top edge of this image!

Description: This morning there were so many spiders webs of all kinds this one being the more traditional, I gazed at it for ages wondering at how clever spiders are. And they seem to do it all at night. Amazing!

Broad Pool Morning

Description: Sunrise was at 5.10 this morning and I was awake at 4.30, the forecast was cloudless but with mist so I made my way to Cefn Bryn on Gower. From there you can see for miles and it looked as if Broad Pool would be the best location. By now the mist was clearing but everywhere was bathed with morning's golden light.

Ramsons at Illston

Description: Behind Illston church on Gower there is this superb wood that is a magical carpet of ramsons at this time of year. The trick is to get there when they are really at their best and this year I was lucky. The air is heady with the smell of garlic and you can just lose yourself in your photography. Marvellous!

Restful Waterfall

Description: This lovely waterfall is just off the road on the way to the Claerwen Dam in the Elan Valley, the sun was shining through the new, green leaves and the copper of last year's leaves was still about. All around there were moss clad tree trunks and a completely covered dry stone wall. Magical!

Falling Light Achnahaird Bay

Description: Plenty of background, waving grasses in the foreground and a setting sun should have produced a great image of Stac Pollaidh. Sadly, to get the marriage of foreground and background light was not possible on this afternoon. Just before the light finally disappeared for the day this cloud lit up and produced a rather ghostly light. I was happy.

Dundonnell Waterfall

Description: This was the waterfall which took all the attention from my previous shot of a more modest but charming one. It is the final part of a series, all close together - amazing to look at but trying to get the whole lot as a capture just wouldn't have worked. Dramatic - but I prefer the smaller one!

Description: Believe me the water was not this flat, at 15sec exposure everything looks serene but if I had put myself above the parapet I would have been blown over - it was also very cold. As it turned out the sun performed its dawn yawn politely hidden behind the cloud. But then, dawn is not always about orange skies!

Description: Above the drama of an impressive series of waterfalls by the side of the Gairloch road this tiny waterfall was to be seen, day after day it is there perhaps quietly envious of its rushing neighbour. It has clarity, beauty and charm. On this afternoon all its qualities were fully appreciated.

Loch Droma near Ullapool

Description: This was taken on a dawn shoot during a visit to Ullapool at the end of February. This was really the only day when a dawn shoot was remotely possible, the wind was strong and quite biting and the sun showed itself briefly and occasionally, nevertheless it was good to be there! Shortly after this shot the rain came down in buckets so it was back for a very welcome breakfast!

Ben Mor Coigach

Description: The first pink light of dawn on Ben Mor Coigach near Ullapool. I was crouched down on the shore of Lochan Drumrunie, my feet gradually getting colder but, what the hell, I had this spectacle opening up in front of me and it was magical. Not one of those full-in-your-face sunrises which makes you go 'WOW' with incredulity but a nice gentle stillness that puts you at peace with the world. If only it was just ten minutes from home!

Description: Newport bridge was built in 1800 and stands proudly amongst more modern bridges. In another 200 years it will still stand proudly, possibly amongst other, newer bridges.

Transporter Bridge, Newport

Description: Newport, Monmouthshire is a bit like the Newcastle of south Wales (just like Birmingham is said to be the Venice of the midlands). The river Usk runs through and is crossed by many bridges, some modern, some older but all very distinctive. At night with a full river the Transporter Bridge is quite spectacular.

Description: I seem to have neglected this little area of waterfalls for a while and the seashore seems to have had more of my attention. I was sure that this waterfall would be iced up so I took a trip there this afternoon, Thankfully I managed to get there before the world and his wife arrived and had time to take some images. This was the first. Snappy New Year to everyone!!

Description: The Quiraing on Skye is quite an amazing place, there can't be anything similar in the whole of Britain. To stand there and gaze at this huge landscape just leaves you speechless, except that is, for your ability to say "Wow!!"

Description: One of the many beautiful waterfalls in the Neath Valley, Sgwd Gwladys is probably the most accessible - you just follow the path behind The Angel in Pontneddfechan. The Angel is an inn offering both food and liquid refreshment so there is a reward at both ends of this walk. There are many more waterfalls in this area so when the weather is not amenable to the more open spaces this is one place that offers an alternative.

Glen Sligachan

Description: Had spent the morning a way into the glen trying to get a decent image of the Cuillins but I wasn't getting anywhere. We were to meet back at the Sligachan Hotel at lunchtime so, rather downcast I made my way back, by the time I got to the bridge I was presented with this. Not bad for a March day on Skye!

Description: After a really blustery afternoon at Loch Etive we were on the way back to Rannoch Moor and saw this lochan which we had noticed on the way down. The weather had settled so we made our way down to the shore and this was my result. It was the best of that particular day.

Rhossili Sunset

Description: Christmas Day. Had been out to Rhossili in the morning but was completely uninspired. A few hours after I got home the sky opened up and showed promise so back I went. I took this from the track leading to the old vicarage so that I had a higher vantage point, didn't think I had much of any note until I downloaded this on to the computer.
