Sail Mhor

Description: A distant view along the river towards Sail Mhor, one of the peaks of Liathach in Glen Torridon, Scotland. This photo was taken around 3 hours after the "Loch Damh in the rain" posted earlier...such amazing change in the weather. That's Scotland!

Description: Quite amazing weather. Clear sky above and behind me (hence reflected in the river) but rain and strong sun coming towards me! High contrast but hopefully it works? Got wet soon after!

Description: On a day with no cloud and extremely blue sky I sought out some contrasting colours and came across these yellow reeds. Problem was they seemed all chaotic and not sure how successul this composition is?

Description: Taken from Whinstone Lee Tor along Derwent Edge looking down on Ladybower reservoir in the Peak District. A destination I had wanted to come to for some time when the Heather is in bloom. In the end I was more taken by the view and tor itself although some heather managed to creep in! I don't think this is right technically....the reflection in the water are brighter than the clouds....but it's the first nearly successful backlit photo I have taken in a long while. Unfortunately it clouded over completely soon after and the much wanted sunset didn't happen. A place to head back to.

Description: After a lovely day of sunshine and showers, a low bank of cloud moved in but you knew that when the sun broke through it would light up the clouds like mad. And it did!! Absolutely not played with saturation at alll here...really was an amazing sight.

Description: I noticed these ice enclosed grasses on the banks of a river and they looked entombed. The open blue sky was reflected in the river, making the scene look even colder.

Fire and Ice

Description: Taken back in February at Curbar Edge, Peak District, UK. There was a dusting of snow, or heavy frost, the night before and these grasses really caught the first rays of the morning light. Wish there was more cloud in the sky but can't have everything! I took photos later where the sun was lighting up the valley, but to me they distract from the beauty of the grasses.

Description: I was drawn to the smorgasboard of colours surrounding this stream and how in the flat light they came to life...the reds, greens and greys. I struggled to put the tree...of the hanging on title...against a dark background to show off it's form. I really struggled to take this photo as it was heavy wind and rain. To anyone that knows the area it was taken under the A82 roadbridge where there is a viewing point of a waterfall between Kingshouse and the turning for the Clachaig Inn, Glencoe. At least I kept dry!

Mount Snowden morning light

Description: Mount Snowden as it appeared just after sunrise from a plateau neat Moel Berfedd. This was the only clear view I had of the peak all week and even then there was a veiling mist, slightly softening the peak itself. In fact pre-sunrise it was cloud covered and around 20 minutes after this photo, covered as well!

Description: Whilst walking up Mount Snowdon in Wales on a typical rain/sun/hail day I reached Llyn Glaslyn and looked behind me to see the clouds approaching, as if eminating from Moel Siabod with some lovely light on the nearby hills! Cue Afon Glaslyn as the foreground. The contrast was huge and even if with my ND grads I think there's still some blown highlights in the clouds. But, despite that I love the feel of it.

Description: I was attracted to the ridge and the light landing on it, but for the life of me couldn't find any interesting foreground other than the rather soulless Llyn llydaw. There was a little lake behind the main one and there I came across this amazing red grass, bog myrtle I believe?

Description: Somewhat more simplified composition compared to last time, ensuring the real subject is the little tree with it's daring yellow leaves amongst the pines. Looking back, I should have had the tree more on the right hand side of the frame...ah well, I'll go back next year!

Description: I really liked the arrangemnt of these trees, like a group of soldiers standing to attention! Little dash of autumnal colours helps too. As does the last lingering fog to make the trees stand out even more, oh and a touch of dampness as well.

Description: I liked how the small tree in the background was trying to get attention by looking like it was dancing! Maybe I should have used less depth of field here so that that as my subject was more isolated....?
