Description: Took my children to the Doctor who exhibition in Manchester today. They had a great day and it allowed me to do some very different photography to what I am used to. Was well out of my comfort zone! I am really plesaed with how this photo came out as the lighting was very difficult. The blue is just how it looked. There is no enhancement to this photo.

Description: I often find that bird photography and young children do not go well together so on a recent trip to the coast this huge piece of driftwood kept my young son occupied for all of half an hour!

Falcated courtship

Description: Falcated teal males courtship consists of raising up out of the water to show off their breast whilst whistling, then going down into the water with their bottoms stuck in the air whilst grunting (photo here)

Making a splash

Description: When doing alot of my ornemental wildfowl photography I look for pockets of water where the light or colours are best and then entice the birds over. In this shot I caught the splash of the water as the corn hit. It certainly attracted this male ringed teal.

Miasma

Description: One day over christmas I was in some woods watching a huge flock of siskins. The sun is very bright but it was very cold and there were pockets of sunken mist. It gave the woods a really magical feel. I tried to capture it but was really hampered with my 500mm lens as I didnt have much distance to back off from the scene.

Description: Not an especially good photo quality wise as it was s hot at iso 1600 when light was almost negigable but i love the pose! Imageinnovators gorilla reminded me that I had this one.

A Golden day

Description: The weather and light today was superb and I came home with many satisfying shots in the can. Someone earlier tonight asked me if this had been done following a ps tutorial as it had been featured recently. This shot is as it came off the camera. No enhancements whatsoever. It has been cropped and slightly sharpened only. btw I did try for a landscape without birds but they just happened to fly passed so what could I do? ;)

Captive

Description: This taking photos without birds in is quite difficult my mind keeps harking back lol. So I have compromised really hard with this one ;) Whilst visiting my local park I was looking at all the captive chickens and guinea fowl when i saw this guinea fowl feather snagged on a twig and gently blowing in the wind. It seemed to capture the whole ethos of the place.

Description: I think that, along with the Smew this bird has to be one of the most difficult to photograph well. Almost impossible to get the exposure right in anything except the right lighting conditions. This is the female. She is easier ;)

Description: On my way to Martinmere I always drive passed a field of captive deer. I have never stopped but one day recently the light on them was equisite and I couldnt resist. Does anyone know what species of deer they are?

Description: I was told I should broaden my horizons and try to photograph things that do not fly away. This is my first effort at landscapes though I realise I am probably using a most inappropriate lens to do it. It was taken as the sun was going down on a good days birding at Marshside, Southport.

Description: Its amazing where you find inspiration. One day we were walking along the banks of a canal looking for birds and failing to find any when I spotted this composition. I loved how the sun was glistening on the water.
