Description: Just to illustrate the sheer scale of these things - the tiny people at the base, against the gigantic structure itself, and there are hundreds of them at this wind farm. Standing under one of them, especially in the dark as it rotates under a stiff breeze, frankly, scares the pants off you. The sound itself is enough to make you want to run a mile!

Description: Christmas morning 2010 - driving towards my sister's place in Drymen not long after sunrise, enshrouded in mist. Another of those "stop car, jump out, take photo, resume drive" moments. A quite distinct semi-circular ice halo accompanied the Sun as it tried to break through the haze.

Description: Took this on Christmas day, on the way back to my sister's house from my cousin's house on the shore of Loch Lomond. Just driving along, and was confronted by this - cue skidding halt in the snow, bewildered relatives in car, wondering why I'd suddenly vacated the driving seat... :)

Description: Taken with the Canon 500D, through 110mm refractor at prime focus. One frame from a stack of approximately twenty, stacked in Avistack. Star-spikes added for effect, in Photoshop using Noel Carboni's "Star Spikes" plug-in.

Description: Jupiter, with three of his four "kids"; Io, Europa & Ganymede. The fourth, Callisto, is out of shot. I took this from my veranda - not normally an ideal location for good "seeing", with convection currents rippling the atmosphere from local houses and their not-so-well-insulated roofs, but for some reason the week this was taken, the seeing was absolutely superb. Taken with the Canon 500D, through 110mm refractor, with 2x Powermate "multiplier", recorded onto laptop using "EOS Movie Record" using its 5x magnification facility. Stacked the resultant movie in Avistack to achieve one good frame, and tweaked the curves and levels in Photoshop.

The rising Moon through reeds and wispy cloud

Description: Had to take a few attempts at this due to the narrow aperture / long-ish exposure time required, and crouching in snow-covered, loose pebbles. I finally got one out of about six that I was happy with. The Sun had already dipped below the horizon about 15 minutes earlier, so moonlight and the sky were my only friends. :)

Description: This was taken through a 770mm f/l refractor telescope, using an Imaging Source monochrome CCD camera. Due to the cameras' field of view being so limited, six separate 1000-frame videos were captured, then processed in software (Avistack) to produce six separate frames which were subsequently stitched together to give this final result.
