Description: The background was already very dark, and the swans very bright since the sun was overhead and the white plumage blew out, hence the conversion to mono to try to rescue the shot

Description: or more precisely, the larva of a Grey Dagger Moth (Acronicta psi) Deep shade under a tree, so I had to use the on-camera flash which has overexposed the bright yellow stripe a bit

Description: This thing was quite happy to walk onto my finger for a few close-ups, but I have no idea what it is. The furry body suggests a moth, but the antennae suggest a butterfly. Any ideas?

Description: A caterpillar seen beside the footpath whilst I walked to work yesterday morning. I wonder how big the moth will be, because this monster was about 4" long and quite fat :)

Description: The first dragonfly I have seen this year (and it's a bit early). I think it's either a female or maybe an immature male Broad Bodied Chaser (Libellula depressa) Seen on field boundary grass as I walked home tonight This is about 95% of frame

Description: This fierce little monster was blocking the pathway on my morning walk today so I decided to shoot him. ok I'm joking. He froze, probably as a defense mechanism, when I approached and let me get a few shots before scuttling into the grass and letting me get an even closer portrait. See picture Cute #2 for that one. 1/3 frame

Description: Hanging around underneath a nettle leaf, this thing (crane-fly, horse-fly, daddy-long-legs, whatever) was nicely backed by a patch of sunlight. The antennae really are that furry, it's not sharpening effects :)

Description: One of the first to appear this year, it's a Hawthorn Shield Bug (found beside a hawthorn bush), and for those of a technical nature, the latin name is Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale.

Description: I'm told it's harmless, anyone want to find out? This beastie was hovering above a well-walked footpath and no-one even noticed him (her?) until I started taking pictures. Then people started avoiding the path for some reason :)
