Description: "Druid Peak Wolf" was photographed on a hike back out from flyfishing Yellowstone's Cache Creek. This young, black wolf was approaching on the trail and then flanked me in the sage brush just 40 feet away - making for a nice photo opportunity...

Black Bear Sow and Cubs

Description: "Black Bear Sow and Cubs" was photographed in Yellowstone National Park along the Tower Creek Trail. It was fall and black bears were foraging on the rose hips along the creeks. I was laying on top of a large boulder across the creek when I took this shot.

Description: "Moose Cow and Calf" was photographed deep in the forest by walking in off the Moose-Wilson Road north of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I photographed this cow and calf for over two hours as I hid in a stand of trees while she showed the calf what to eat, licked its face and nursed it!

Just the Berries...

Description: "Just the Berries!" was photographed in Yellowstone National Park along the Tower Creek Trail. It was fall and black bears tend to forage on the rose hips along the creeks. The rose hips are not hard, but soft and much like a bitter tasting berry.

Description: "Moose Cow - Submerged" was photographed at the edge of a large pond near Moosehead Lake in Maine. This moose cow stepped out of the woods just as the sun was setting. We paddled hard across the pond in our canoe to get a couple of photos in the low light. Here she has raised her head to get a look at us. Moose recline their ears to let the water drain out...

Notice the remaining velvet on his antlers and the grooves in the bone of his antlers where veins used to carry blood as the antlers were growing...
