Hyde Park Swan

Description: Not been out and about much recently due to a few health issues but finally managed to get out earlier today. I've felt the need to use hdr on previous wide angle swan shots. Here I'm experimenting with fill flash. I clearly still have much to learn in its use as I was forced to resort to the shadow highlight tool. Even so, the RAW files were a lot closer to what I was after than when using no flash at all.

Description: Why is it you only ever sea the big stuff when you have the macro lens on? We'd just finished a dive on Rocky Island in the Red Sea when we spotted a big pod of dolphins from the RIB. We just had to jump in and snorkel with them and for once they stayed around and let us swim with them for a while. For me, it was a dream come true.

Giza Light

Description: I think I mentioned this shot previously. The rays of light filtering through the clouds over the modern city of Cairo and illuminating the pyramids at Giza was a sight to behold. Unfortunately the camera, at least in my hands, was incapable of recording the scene before me. This shot, where I concentrated on the sky and underexposed significantly, is the only one where the rays are vaguely visible. I have tried to emphasise the rays in Photoshop to no avail. If anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them.

Description: This is the skipper of the felucca we hired to take us around the islands whilst at Aswan. This is also a bit of an experiment as I have used Adobe RGB instead of my normal sRGB. Edit: That is interesting. The colour is quite different on my version to what is shown here.

This is yet more experimentation in post-processing tomfoolery, this time a process called the Orton effect.

Description: This shot was taken from our cruise boat along the Nile. Of itself it isn't a particularly good photo but I quite like the 'feel' of it. Unfortunately, this was achieved from some random playing about in Photoshop and I have been singularly incapable of remembering exactly how it was done or coming close to this look with any of my better pictures. Doh!

Description: These guys were everywhere at Cocos, so much so that you barely noticed them after the first couple of dives. Except for on the night dives when 200 of them would be hunting together in a pack. That was truly awesome.
