Description: Some lizards can brighten their skin with all sorts of colors. The red in the eyelid of this Sceloporus lizard, however, happens to be a few mites. A few more are near its armpit.

Description: This plains spadefoot was chorusing from a strand of grass on a dark night after heavy thunderstorms. They are called gnomes of the night because they occur in dry areas and remain underground much of their life. They appear after heavy rains, and their eggs can develop through the tadpole stage and metamorphose to a land form (toad) in between 2-3 weeks.
