'The eyes have it!'

Description: It's fungi season here in Melbourne Vic....... These were protruding through the moss and made a quite unique image (eyes!)......when 'Earth Stars' emerge they look like small pufballs but on maturity the outer layer splits into the star shape revealing the soft inner sac containing the spores.

Description: My encounter with this gorgeous creature was at Lerdederg Gorge...I was about to cross the river by the stepping stones when I heard a cracking sound as if a tree was going to fall...gum trees have a habit of just falling...so I went to investigate and saw this beautiful face looking down at me. I only had my small camera with me, took a couple of shots and then raced 2 ks back to the car grabbed the big camera and raced back hoping that it hadn't decided to leave. Several bush walkers had passed by but non had spotted it, I got quite a few photos. Do hope you like it !

Container Ship

Description: When I took this shot I realized how small that we are in comparison! I was standing on the wharf side taking photos of a Gannet in the water when the swell started and I looked up to see what was creating it and this container ship was just going out of the docklands to the bay! 'Victoria Docks' Melbourne.

'TV Antaenna

Description: I thought that this came under the catergory of 'everyday item' The birds congregate every morning on my new aerial to see what I have to offer. The noise is quite loud, as I'm sure the 'Magpie Lark' summons all within ear shot, even though it is out-numbered, that 'Breakfast is served' and as shown in a previous post, the cats as well!

Description: I was out birding today and saw a new species to my area "Eastern Yellow Robin' and was treated to a few others but I thought that you all might like to see a country lane. Only the locals use it and it leads to the back of my property! The 'fronds' that are hanging from the gum trees are called 'Mistletoe', birds are responsibly for putting the seeds of other trees on the host gum and when they adhere, slowly kill it.

Description: I was out the back of my place taking photos of birds when this lady jumped over the fence and sat down in front of me! To my delight her 'Joey' was taking an interest in the surroundings and then she decided to take an interest in me, which is not always a good thing!! After I had taken a few shots of her and the youngster she hopped off to join the rest of the 'mob', which by the way has grown in size since they last visited our back paddock. Further up the road from my place there is a very large paddock (1000 acres) and that is where they usually congregate but the feed must be getting a bit sparse and the mob are venturing closer to town.

Togetherness!!

Description: This scene is a regular sight when I put bread out in the mornings! Two of my cats eat their breakfast over at the feed room (stable) and then come over and share the bread with any birds that might come down, the Raven is a very frequent visitor to the property and more often than not lets every other bird within earshot that there is food out for them! A very pleasant experience for my Grand-Daughter Alex as she is 4yrs (her cat is the grey) and can identify most birds that she sees outside! (Both cats are strays but have lived here for nearly 5yrs and don't seem to want to leave!)

Kangeroos

Description: I went down to the back paddock and a 'mob' of Kangeroos were grazing. Most evenings these great animals are seen hopping along and going down to the creek to get a drink. Sometimes they wander out to the road and cause problems but most of the time prefer the safety of the wide open spaces!

Description: I don't have an ID for this local TV 9 News Helicopter, it was flying over my place on its way back to the city. I haven't had much luck with the blades before but I thought that this one, not too bad!!

'Sorce' (The Carrack Sorcerer)

Description: My daughter's horse 'Sorce' was waiting to see if any carrots were coming his way whilst I filled his trough tonight! He's a 'Freisan' and she used him for riding and carriage driving before she had her daughter 'Alex' but he now has a life of leisure until next spring when she is going to put him back in work,(hopefully). Thought you all might like to share!
