Description: I've become as interested in dragonflies and damselflies as I have in birds. I'm leading an RSPB dragonfly walk around Anderton and Marbury in Cheshire this coming Sunday (5th July). We'll have a local expert to show us around. All are welcome to come along. It's from 10.00 am till 3.00 pm (so bring a packed lunch) - meet at Anderton Boat Lift Car Park (SJ649754). Trisha

Common Darters

Description: A pair of common darters in cop. The silvery colour of the female indicates that she is very mature (seems to have found a toy-boy).

Description: Taken in Namibia, 2006. The dragonfly is 'sky-pointing', a technique used to reduce the surface area of the insect.

Description: The dragonfly larva climbed up the plant stem from the water. The dragonfly then emerged from the back of the larval carcass (the exuvia). The newly emerged dragonfly (a teneral) waits a couple of hours whilst its wings and abdomen fill with fluid and harden and then flies off.
