Description: The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight from RAF Coningsby came to the Airbus factory at Hawarden on 30-31/05/2025 to commemeorate the 80th Anniversary of Lancaster Bomber Production at the site during WW2. See https://www.raf.mod.uk/display-teams/battle-of-britain-memorial-flight/ for more info. PA474 is one of two remaining Lancasters flying in the world (the other one is in Canada) and my mother worked on Wellingtons initially and then Lancasters at the factory during the war so I had to go and get hopefully a decent shot of these aircraft.

Description: Must be a better title somewhere! The birds were not out playing yesterday so like many of the other photographers used my zoom as a semi macro lens on dragonflies and damselflies.

Great Crested Grebe

Description: For Mike Toll-obviously not up to your standard but they were a long way out on the lake. Google maps says 300 metres! 300mm lens with 1.5 crop sensor and 1.4 TC so 630mm equiv focal length, then cropped 50% on the width. Overall I'm quite happy with these. Processed with my normal ACDSee routine, then Topaz Denoise AI.

Description: A wee change from bird pictures. The path I was walking on was covered in millions of seeds coming from reeds lining a stream. I used a shaded area of the background to under expose the shot giving a dark background and make the seeds (which had filaments) stand out.

Gull Attack 3

Description: The same gull having forced down the crow then attacked a Coot which fought back by leaping from the water to try and strike the gull. I have never seen this behaviour before as most birds just duck (no pun intended) but Coots are themselves aggressive birds. This happened several times until the gull flew away.

Description: The next frame of the attack at 12.5 fps so giving some idea of the closing speed. The next frame caught the impact but it was such a chaotic jumble of bodies and wings with no heads showing I deleted it.

Lifeboat at Raft Race

Description: I took the plunge yesterday and bought the RF100-400 lens and used it today to take photographs at the raft race. Although I concentrated more on the subject than on the settings and it was a dull, wet day. I enjoyed using the lens.

Description: This vessel has been moored off our Coast for a couple of days, after exercises in Scotland. They moved off as soon as I arrived. HMS Dragon was apparently used in a Bond movie. By mistake I posted it on social media, as HMS Spider, and doing that stirred up everyone, to let me know I'd made a mistake!!!

Gull Attack 1 - Closing In.

Description: A particularly agressive gull was attacking all and sundry, here closing in on what I think is a crow. Harsh light, both a black and a white subject plus cropping. Not an ideal situation!

Description: I was thrilled to see a succesful brood of Great Crested Grebes riding on the parents back, four in all though not all visible in this shot. Long lens plus two teleconverters plus pretty hefty crop but it worked!
