Description: I started first with a b and w work copy; Looking on tahe left side of the mountain, I found a RGB MID GREY VALUE OF 133. Then I opened a color copyl In my LEVELS TOOL, I applied the RGB 133 in the MID GREY BOX.

DEPARTING GORNERGRAT

Description: MO i did a revisit on this subject. First I put the image in HUE SATURATION. Then I put Saturation Slider right to the bottom to make a grey image. Then I put my Grey Card against the Ring and using the Brightness I move the Slder up to where the G C and ring Grey's match brightness levels.That done, I click OK and go out of Hue Sat.Then I check my MID GREY RGB Valuaes in the scene. They should be around 95 into the low RGB 100's. This image gave very accurate RGB Values in that area.

White Card

Description: I just finished my illustration in my LEVELS DEFAULT setting. To start - I had Anne hold my WHITE CARD at her chin facing me. That made the light SKIM across it. (If I used the grey side - my image would be far too bright).I did the original exposure settings in ALL AUTO - Then I put the settings in TV MODE to keep the shutter speed and ISO from ALL AUTO and did the image. Then. I finished it LEVELS on the P C.

HEAVY RAIN and WHITE BAG INCIDENT

Description: Early this morn we had a very heavy rain coming down. I thought I would try an image and see what happens. I used my White Bag Incident lens cover for my exposures. On the P C I went to my LEVELS TOOL. I set all SLiders too the left to '0'. Then I set ;my thumbnail measurements to 1000 points Then I went to LEVELS - Darken Slight - to do the image.

Overcast Day Last June

Description: Mant years ago ( I cannot rememberwhen exactly) the fellow running the printing shop we use locally told me to work with WHITE. Sometimes I remember his advice and sometimes it slips my mind. In this illustration, I used White Balance as my tweak. I feel it is the right tweak to use.

Description: Mo; This image I did using the exact same techniques as I did in the apartment image. This one I used white bag incident - not H D R. My Hue Saturation brought out nice whites on the mountain.

Gray Day using H D R MODE

Description: Mo; I know I used this recently, but I tried something to see if I could achieve a better result. I tried many tweaking tools, enlarged my Thumbnail boxes to 900 points in each on the orange- red tree in the bottom left area. All my Slider Tools I put to their darkest points. Then I clicked on FACTORY DEFAULT. My 900 points gave me a very good idea of how the correction turned out on the red tree - using a magnifying glass - when my color came back. My final choice was my HUE SATURATION TOOL for my best results - shown here.

ZERMATT DINNER

Description: I have been having a good look at some of my art tools. This image I did using Hue Saturation. Like my image a few mins ago, I slid all the sliders to the Far Left Wall. Then I clicked on Factory default to keep the very low light we had in the cafe.

Saturday Visit

Description: Last Saturday we visited a friend - on the 14 floor - of a local apartment. We had bleak weather at the time. While there, i tried my H D R MODE.(I did not want to fiddle with the cam controls) At home, I tried Hue Saturation Tool by setting the Slider Controls to athe Left Wall of the hree Sliders Then I went to my Factory Default control and clicked that. Checking my results; I felt they kept the soft lighting well.

Description: The train has departed Gornergrat for Zermatt 35 mins down the mountain by this cog railway.. There is a very large walking area outside the station area. We did explore that area.

WHITE RING GUIDE for INCIDENT EXPOSURE

Description: Dear Mo To start, I aimed my White Ring - on my White Bag - to the roof. My light was coming onto it too strong p at subject location. Then I aimed the ring to my chair and removed the White Ring and did my exposure in ALL AUTO shutter at 20 ISO at 1000 I set these settings in TV MODE and did the image bringing in a Rembrandt touch on shady cheek.by the glasses. I do not have many - but can find an odd painting that is dark like thisa in my art books

360 DEGREE INCIDENT READING

Description: In ALL AUTO I aimed the lens and white bag as close to the sky as I could get it. I notaed the exposure settings - shutter - 160 sec at 100 ISO. Then I put the settings in TV MODE - opened the window - and tried the image. This confirmed my desire to use NO OTHER METERING after this result and Anne's soft image yesterday.

360 degree Incident Reading Exposure

Description: I tried this one by aiming my white bag - even with the subject -in ALL AUTO - at my room roof in medium lighting. I noted the exposures. In TV MODE I set exposures from ALL AUTO and tried the scene. I do like the soft look this gave.

ALL AUTO 3 EXPOSURE AVERAGE

Description: Mo This image is nothing in itself. However, I did try something I found interesting. I did one reading from the white carad - white part of container I did one reading from the Grey Card for the top of the container . Then I aimed the G C at the Red cover on the table (made it darker) and did a reading. This kept the red cover in check I feel I put the AVERAGED READIGS in TV MODE and did the image

Description: This is done exactly the same as my White Bag Incident image earlier. I wrote all my values in ALL AUTO and did the image in TV Mode, I find it very helpful to have this softer version as well as the brighter version. As I study my painting books, I now have a better idea of which way to portray my subject - bright or soft.. Now back to the Switz imaages

ALL AUTO MODE 4 EXPOSURE AVERAGE

Description: In ALL AUTO MODEI wrote down 4 Exposures and Averaged them. I received 1/60 for a shutter and 1600 ISO. I put the 1/60 and 1600 in TV MODE and did my image. I studied some Vermeer Paintings (in a book on Vermeer) to see how he put his light directions in his painting before I started this. The reason for the soft image this morn is - I did not use MACRO setting for my distance and I enlarged the image too much (It has been removed)

Three White Bag Incident Exposures - Averaged

Description: Early this mOrn, I did three separate incident readings in ALL AUTO. My Values I wrote on paper. I totalled and averaged the three shutter speeds and then the three ISO'S. Then I moved to TV MODE and applied the averaged shutter speed and averaged ISO from ALL AUTO. Then I opened the window and did the image using the averaged settings in T V MODE..All in all, I am quite pleased with the result.

Description: In ALL AUTO i DID 2 INCIDENT READINGS - ONE TO MARKET ROOM FOR SHADOWS, ONE TO CRANE FOR HIGHLIGHTS i ADDED THE SHUTTER SPEEDS AND ISO'S AND SPLIT THEM IN HALF. M FINAL SETTINGS ARE - IN TV MODE - SHUTTER 1/500 AT 100 ISO TO DO THE IMAGEI USED A BLACK BATH TOWEL OVER MY HEAD AND SCREEN TO CHECK MY WORK AT HOME. THE ROOM WAS A TAD BRIGHT AT THE TIME AND IT WORKED VERY WELL INDEED FOR THIS PURPOSE AND WITH THE CAM OUTSIDE.. GOV'T FERRY NAME IS COSTAL INSPIRATION

White Bag Incident to Room Roof in ALL AUTO for Exposures

Description: As itt says I aimed the W B Incident to roomroof to get my Exposures. - 1/40 second and 800 ISO. In TV MODE I did an image of my Value Finder Card then this scene it is nothing special except - the two shades of white at the bottom are very clean and clear. I do wonder how Reflected Metering would bring in these whites - except maybe using a Grey Card?

Dark Cafe Light

Description: I did my White Bag incident in AUTO to find my settings 1/30 and ISO 800 These I put in TV MODE I did an image of my Value Finder and then my Subject. My subject was in a very dark corner of the cafe, so I did an image 1 ISO higher than my AUTO ISO. This is what I tried to show here. If I made it brighter it would not be what I saw with my naked eye - this one is.

Description: Anne came across a fundraiser where they had these animals for a donation. People were raising money for food for children who did not have breakfast before school. Anne lit this bear very low and I tried to keep the light she used on it. Now it is time for Switazerland again.

EV Plus 1/3 Tweak for Mo

Description: Mo; This turned out be a most interesting study. I aimed the white bag and cam to where I was taking the image and found a shutter speed of 1/13 at ISO 1250. Then I put my Mag Lupe on my Histogram Box and found my center peak just inside Slot 3. I thought I would try setting an EV of PLUS 1/3. When I put MY MAG LUPE over the Histogram Box, i saw where my Centered Peak was now in the Center of Slot 3. I could not believe a 1/3 increase in EV could make such a small difference. This exercise I did in P MODE for shutter and EV and did all the main work in TV MODE

Very Low Light Study for Mo

Description: This is an interesting exercise. I used a white part of an envelope from our photo print shop on Anne's kneeas a reference guide.. Then I worked up my 3 image bracket - to the MINUS side - until I made the white envelope give me the level of the light from the table lamp. My image I used here gave me an EV of MINUS 1. I did NO PP on it so as to see exactly what I had in the image and how it matches quite closely many of the darker portraits in my art books. I know many folks would say the colors are too dark, but if they saw the light level I used (and no flash) - that is truly not the case here..

Description: I do not know if this comes out on your screen but I thought I would try. /My details: First I set the cam to EV 0, Minus 0,66 and Plus 0.66 Then I moved all 3 settings as far right as I could All room lights were turned off - room was black as a coal mine with no headlamp Then I tried - very carefully - a 3 image bracket. My illustration is one done at EV PLUS 3.66 - the brightest of the three. My lights in the image are from power bar, modem, front of P C Tower - very small and low in output.It is amazing I got what I got.

Description: In a cafe we had lunch in, I tried to see if I could bring in subject details on the IRIS and PUPIL of the eyes. I got it as bright as I dared without overexposing the subject. My idea here is to keep the light level I had as well as I could - with room lighting

Description: I found this card that offers ZONES from 1 to 9. The card shows a usable range of Zone ii to Zone VIII I worked with my hand and table lamp to try to match ZONES VI and VII touching in ZONE VIII. This cad has the usage values right at the bottom edge, so I can go right to the subject to study Subject Values.

DR CORRECTION OF ANNE

Description: First I used a WHITE CARD facing the window to get an ISO at 160 Manual Then I set my DR to AUTO for ISO 160 (it is below 200) Then I turned on my SHADOW CORRECTION Then I did my image aIf I did not have my DR and Shadow on, the image would nota have been nearly as good.

Description: IN PROGRAM MODE - in SX 60 - I have two settings; 1 DR CORRECTION AUTO PLUS 200% AND 400%. 2. SHADOW CORRECT AUTO. These are based on ideas in HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE TOOL - I think. For this image I took a reading from a white card and set ISO 100 MANUALLY. I left me DR CORRECTION and SHADOW CORRECTION at AUTO

SLOW SYNC FLASH

Description: Mo This one I did in Program Mode. First I set my flash to SLOW SYNC to see if I could get just a small wink of light to keep the subject from wiping out using the flash. When l checked the results, I did get a reduced amount of flash - as I wanted.
