Description: Just got a new lens for the micro four thirds camera. Not bad at all, and handles very well on the Lumix. Was intended as a shot of some of the Leicas at work, but Jem peering through the glass cabinet added somthing I think. Could have been technically better, though I am suprisingly impressed with the sharpness with it wide open at f/3.5

Description: Initially a photo I would have binned. Taken as the little chap ran past with his new christmas toy. Some playing around on Photoshop, mainly just adjusting sliders and colours, modified the image to this. I quite like the high key, but undecided about the blue, a little too much maybe?

Another Loch in Scotland!

Description: Another Loch to drive around and take some snaps. I felt the urge to take lots of wide angle shots, only to find them less than pleasing....Big skies and impressive landscapes have a tendancy to overload the senses, and it's all to easy to reach for the widest lens in the kit bag. I like this one as it showed the changing weather sweeping down through the loch.

A beautiful hotel in Perthshire

Description: We happened to be driving past this hotel on the way to Loch Lomond, and had to stop to take a snap. The Autumn Foliage really caught my eye.....and it was an excuse to give an old AI'd K type Nikkor 85mm lens a trial. F stop probably around f/5.6...sorry, I didn't dial in the lens properly on the cameras menu.

Description: On a tour of the Lochs of the region. Possibly Killin end of Loch Tay, but could be south of this (Loch Earn)....taken on the way to Lawers. A damp dull photo, possibly brought to life by pleasant reflections

Description: Yeah right! Milly, the tigar in miniature is currently using wife Jacky as her scratch post. Now also rapidly loosing the kitten looks. Likes the camera, thinks vinyl backgrounds smell funny, and is intrigued by those triggers dangling from the studio flash units!!

New addition to the family

Description: Not had chance to get some studio shots yet. Yesterday we added milly, an 8 week old kitten, to the family. This was one of the few occasions she had her eyes open and wasn't running around 'hunting' A few seconds later I got too close and the paw and teeth came up on the lens hood, swiftly followed by a lick of the UV filter!

Description: This was another from the session. My entry for last weekend's challenge. Again, pretty much the same settings to achieve this result. 1/32 manual power, burst mode, to fire off 8fps as I sway the camera about in a circular motion. Camera settings are in the exif below. Thinking about it now, and if I do more, I should try swaying with the centre 'pivot' point being subjects head?...just an idea. This shot was helped along with some level adjustments and burning/darkening of the edges.

Description: Taken as a series. Mario practising on his birthday. Took some straight shots, but think these slow sync blur ones work better. Speedlite was set really low power 1/32th, rocking camera quickly to blur with available light, but pick out detail with the speedlite flash. The 15mm lens setting helps to add depth and helps darken out the background which i darkened further with level adjustments and a bit of burning

Description: My entry from last weekends challenge. Normally facing the field, I saw the way the light was reflecting back off the stand and highlighting a supporter with some rim light. It looks almost sinister.

Description: White out. The Pennines got it bad. Loads of snow the other day. Managed to find an isolated grass patch peeping through. Over exposed slightly to increase sense of isolation.

Wind Farm

Description: A view of the wind farm These turbines were running at pace (and making quite a noise too). I took lots to get the one in the foreground just right, so I didn't crop any blades off the shot. Took some further back, which is easier, but they didn't have the same impact. The car on the road adds a little scale.

Something in the smoke

Description: An experimental shot, moved here after last weekend's photo challenge finished. The technique was in an old copy of Digital Camera magazine, although the guy in the article was using photoshop to mirror the image and apply a grad tone. I wanted to try and see what I could get without the mirror and grad applications. The jostick/incense stick was put on a stool, a single flashgun under it, Black background, and I gently 'wafted' air under the stool to create an updraft and get some interesting swirling smoke. The WB setting was left on auto so still some blue in the flash rendered, and a little red toning of the top half to add to the something coming out of the smoke!.

Description: Evening news reporter being one of the first to go down the 150ft + 'snow' slide set up in the city centre over the festive period. Flashing lights and music will be played during the evenings. Looked good fun....not for me tho!!! Just a shame it's not nearer the christmas market. Or maybe that's deliberate?...getting tanked up on mulled wine first might not be such a good idea?!
