Posing Puffin

Description: Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula Arctica) on Inner Farne Island, Northumberland, England. They spend 9 moths of the year at sea but come here usually between may and July to breed. I only spent an hour with these graceful, timid creatures but they captured my heart.

Description: I wanted to create an image that didn't look like what it was and I feel i achieved this. I placed 2 eggs side by side angling the shot (using my macro 100mm canon lens), so the eggs looked like ...well...I'm sure you can guess. Hope you like it.

Overlooking The Estuary

Description: I took this in a little Northumberland fishing village as I walked along the beach. What attracted me was the shape/colours of the buildings against the primary colours of the sky and dune grass. This unusual angle gives a little mystery as to what the bottom of the buildings look like, whilst hiding distractions of modern life like wheelie bins, street lights and cars.

Total Nostalgia

Description: I took this with the aim of producing a nostalgic effect photo to match the subject. Applied a cross processing effect using layers/masks etc, then applied a Polaroid style border with some text. It's only a fun image that means a lot to me and hubby as we 'were courting' when space invaders were all the rage. Comments welcome. Thanks.

Description: Been trying for 5 years to get this shot. There was always something to spoil it. The wrong sky, no snow on top, nowhere to stop to take the image, no cloud mass, boring cloud mass, muted colours....This time, my heart leapt when I saw all was perfect. I also did a panoramic but not yet 'stitched it together'.

Drink Fountain

Description: High speed image using a can of diet cola, 2 x mentos mints and a remote shutter. A fun image and done as a mini experiment rather than a full size cola bottle and a full packet of mentos mints. The fountain can reach several feet high apparently!

The Eye Of The Needle

Description: Macro shot of a needle with background to cause a refraction in the droplets. Played with distances/apertures/background to produce the shot I wanted. It\s noisier than I would have liked but overall, Im pleased. Glycerine helps the droplets stay in place.

Description: This took some doing, over 60 shots to perfect it. I had to choose the right place for the tomato, the right D of F and ensure the stripes were central. A nice image for a kitchen or restaurant wall.

Description: Taken on The Holy Island Of Lindisfarne, Northumberland, England. 2 exposures, one for sky , one for boats, merged for a decent exposure throughout. My 2nd try, the 1st one looked like it has chromatic abberation with the bad merge.

Description: This was taken in my extremely early DSLR days when I had a Canon 1000D. Having no idea how to use the settings, no understanding of D of F, ISO, shutter speed, aperture blah...I used the sports setting to try to capture some kind of bird image. Wow, was I taken aback when I saw my result.

Drifting Into Autumn

Description: This leaf was drifting on a pond and I just knew immediately the image I anted to produce. I had to remove a lot of dead insects, debris etc from the water using cloning and spot healing, however the final effect is a calming, Autumn image.

The Eel Steal

Description: Taken on Inner farne, The Farne Islands, Northumberland, England. This was my 1st trip there in the early days of my photography where I understood little about how my DSLR worked. If I remember, I used a programme setting to ensure I didn't miss the moment. The little puffins did all the work, flying out to sea for the sand eels, then when they landed the gulls would swoop to steal their eels. It was heartbreaking and they were such bullies! This little fellow didn't let go though!

Lakeside Sunset

Description: Taken in my local country park, a transformed area that used to be open cast mining. The transformation is stunning. I love going here at sunrise and sunset.There is this lake, perfect for the sunset, and a smaller lake behind it, perfect for the sunrise.

Description: My 1st attempt at tilt shift effect. This was the view from my office window one wet autumn day last year. I followed an online tutorial to mimic the tilt shift and my efforts were rewarded by contact from an international photo mag for permission to feature my image. I was so proud.

Description: This was taken a few year ago, to depict life after dark, in some urban areas. I used my friend as a model and the techniques I had at the time weren't too good, however the graininess and the overall poor quality, for me, adds to the documentary feel. I would welcome any comments, however, like i say, it was a few years ago before i knew half of the settings on my DSLR (I had a Canon 1000D then) or understood D of F, shutter speed, even ISO! Thanks for looking

Forgotten Industry

Description: This was taken to show the demise of ship building and mining in North East England. A once thriving town with mining and ship building being the main employment, the sun has now set on them as these industries have long since died. The wheel is the original Wearmouth Pit wheel and the crane is reminiscent of the ship building, but now from the crane making industry, struggling to survive on the banks of the River Wear.

Description: Taken in RAW with the intention of a B&W conversion,I wanted to add a 'dragan' effect to bring out the character in the face. I used layers/masks to apply the dragan effect, then converted to B&W, applied a little dodge and burn then a vignette to draw the eye in. Not sure mum will like what I did to her.......

Retro Effect Pinhole Image

Description: Taken with DSLR and a pin hole in the body cap (no lens). Had to experiments lots of times to get it right. With pinhole photography, you can't get a sharp image, and any tiny dust particles in the sensor really show up. They are usually quite blurred to I chose my retro finish to enhance make the most of the blurriness and disguise the dirt on the sensor A fun experimental image. Have you guys tried it?
