Description: After the poor light last night and the attrocious pictures I posted - I've managed to nip out for an hour before lunch and grab a few pics in better light. There were several photographers there, all sneaking behind bushes, tutting and criticising those not taking pictures but standing watching! They asked me to move at one point as they believed the parent was alarmed - strange that the nest was right next to a busy footpath and that a woman (notorious for speaking loudly) has stood in front of the nest with her dog for the passed 4 weeks and they've not bothered. I was curtious with them and did move when asked if only to be polite!

Description: I was told about this nest, situated right next to a chidrens play park, by my brother. I went back the next evening having charged up the video camera intending to film the activity only to find they'd fledged. Still I managed a few stills despite fighting with the light.

Description: Whilst out trying to track down Kingfishers today, I noticed at the last minute this Buzzard being mobbed by a crow. Managed to get a quick snap as it flew passed.

Description: Common enough bird, often photographed previously but always somehow the setting didn't look right. This is the first one, (of several), in my portfolio that looks natural, though not the best exposed of the day.

Description: First time in ages I've been out to play with the camera, a bit damp but a fascinating sport. I took a snap of the pro-photographer who arrived for the day, he was 74 years old yesterday and stood knee deep in water waiting for riders to pass just to get the shot! Fantastic.

Description: Recently downloaded "autostitch" and this is the results of the first attempt. The two "img" imageshave been combined to make "composition". Early indications are this is a fantastic bit of software if your confined for space or short of a wid angle lens. Has anyone else had expereince of it?

Description: New Blackbird nest in rhododendron bush in garden. Amazingly this one is only a couple of feet off the ground so I didn't need to use the new mast!

Lake Home Centre

Description: This is one of the first test set ups I've done with my new mast camera. I've been getting up at 5am the first couple of days to be out and about while no one else is around. I did lose the connection with the camera a couple of times while setting this shot up - so the mast was up and down and on and off the vehicle a few times... now you see why I do it so early!

Description: Talk about new toys! This is my new telescopic mast which extends to 53ft. I can say "I'm an aerial photographer" (shhhhh... they won't know I don't have a plane!).

Description: Since moving back to Cumbria the weather has remained typically "damp"! On a slightly better day took the opportunity to get out and about, having had no luck with the wildlife, a poor shot of a greater spotted woodecker is all I've managed and this landscape. Taken using both a polariser and a graduated grey filter though I'm not entirely happy with it 'twas the best of the day!

Description: One of the last shots I ever took in film several years ago at a time when I was only using a camera for snaps! I still had my canon AE1p buried in the back of a cupboard and one day I decided to blow the dust off it. Sadly on getting the film back I discovered the camera had developed a fault, (since serviced). This was one of the better images of the day. Having ordered a CD with the prints it was also the firts time I realised the developments in using a PC for "developing" rather than a darkroom, hence this painting effect.

Description: Sometime ago I took this shot of a Red Squirell in a garden, sadly it wasn't as sharp as I'd have liked but I found the blue plant pot behind an interesting backdrop so I manipulated the image to disguise the focus. It looked better printed on canvas textured paper.

Description: Another shot of the woodpecker, (see earlier post), managed to keep about 10 shots I'm reasonably happy with. I had difficulty manually focusing and tracking the little chap as he bobbed about.

Description: A walk in the park today 'spotted' this little chap - I've never seen one before didn't realise just how small they were. It hung around for about half an hour oblivious to my intrusion. It was some distance away and even with a 2x convertor I've had to crop the image significantly.

Description: It looked like a nice day today - the sun shone for a bit, so I decided to sit out and watch for kingfishers at a local hotspot - it was freezing and a shower of sleet wasn't nice. Still I endevoured and managed to bag a few shots. This is technically not the best of the bunch but I liked the pose!

Description: A piece of history: This is an inside shot of the former Cockermouth livestock auction - sadly this is no longer here as Sainsbury's knocked it down and built a store there. Mitchells who owned the site are thought to be the very first auctioneers in the country.
