Which brings me to my next question. Should I remove Norton first before downloading another anti-virus/firewall program or would it be okay to download new and then remove Norton? Thanks

Download anotehr AV programme first otherwise you are going to be online with out protection - never a good thing. but do not install the new one until Norton is removed. :)

If you log on to Symantec's web site, they have a small utility you can download which removes every last vestige of Symantec/Norton from your computer. I think it's called Norton removal tool, or something like that.
