Thankyou Don for your generous offer, though I think we agree that Nikonians should supply the correct replacement knob. I will ask them to do that (again!).

I'm tempted to write this all down to a bit of confusion somewhere along the line.

Leif,

No probs with doing it if you have no luck with Nikonians or it all drags on a bit. I am sure if you refer them to their own instructions for the replacement knob they will send the right one.

Having had a good look at the net info on the head it certainly looks to be a pretty impressive unit.

Let us know how you get on.

Don

Leif, I've been reading your thread with interest.
Your ingenuity is inspired, my hat goes off to you.

I do hope they supply the correct replacement part this time, but I have a horrible niggly feeling they're gonna let you down. I only hope it's not me getting a negative stance.

Nikonians have now offered to honour the warranty and have asked me to send the entire ball head back to Germany, and they will send me a new one. I guess I cannot argue with that, but it is inconvenient, meaning that I would be without a ball head for at least a week.
I'm sure many of us would've gone with the option Nikonians offered and been without the unit.

I have my fingers crossed that you get an adequate result on this one Leif.
Just wanted to post my words of support.
Good luck
cheers

Thanks Joe. It seems such a waste to exchange my almost perfect unit for a new one, which is part of the reason for refusing. And anyway I find the wing nut preferable to the original knob, as it is easier on the fingers.
