Amazingly dodgey Ebay auction ...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-Nikon-...QQcmdZViewItem

Check-out the items that the 100% feedback was left for !

and check out the other items he has for sale ... some titled "Canon outlet" - yeah right !

Mark.

It'll get plenty of bids. Trust me.

Frauds are common place. For example, an item and seller are located in China, the seller only takes payment by Western Union, and the previous sales are all in German and on the German ebay. Sometimes they get pulled by ebay.

It sure looks like e-bay have been hacked on this one.

Andy 26-05-06 00:04

Yeah, its comical. I'm involved in beta live help thingy on ebay, I may give them a shout tomorrow about it. Though I'm a bit disillusioned with ebay tonight, some hi-fi i was after has gone past my budget... ah well, Revox is a bit 80's.

Don't get Mark started on hi-fi, no, don't! :D

This auction has been shut down by ebay.

But why do people bid on stuff from dodgy chinese sites? Or are these people just acting as 'spoilers' to prevent others being caught?

The same seller has a 2DX going for under 400.00 - don't all rush....

It only takes one or two people to start bidding and then the others join in. I presume greed and the belief that ebay is safe.

greypoint 27-05-06 11:41

Hmm - and just makes it harder for genuine sellers with quality stuff - I think i'm on 454 100% at the moment! Why can I never get people to have a bidding frenzy on my things!!??

I presume that the above seller is dodgy I wouldn't be able to tell.

robski 27-05-06 13:25

Chistine this looks fishy because when you look at his feed back all of his references are on the same day and most of the sellers have zero feed back.

This looks like the info was poorly hacked into e-bay site.

It has also been know for hackers to hi-jack a real account.

Saphire 27-05-06 14:00

Thanks Rob I will bare that in mind for the future.

greypoint 27-05-06 14:55

Always check feedback - always check the type of feedback and what it's for. These Chinese sites always seem to have 10 or 11 feedback and all the people who've left them feedback have 10 too!! I like the one that says 'the book has been shipped' and the item seems to be a coat! Sometimes it can be amusing following these dodgy items. But I still say anyone who buys from an overseas site - other than the well known and recommended ones - is asking for trouble. It's bad enough worrying about buying from genuine people in this country - and I assume it's the same for other people in other countries.

Saphire 27-05-06 15:14

If you know that an item could be dodgy can't you warn the people who are bidding.

Andy 27-05-06 15:20

Yes, always buy the seller, not the product :)
Bit of a shame as I know there are lots of genuine ebay sellers in China... hopefully as the internet becomes dominant over there, they'll be doing some self-policing.

I know some have issues with paypal...but you rarely get someone with criminal intent using it. In general, if they don't accept paypal, I'll pass it by. It's not easy to create more than one paypal account, where-as its very easy to create a new ebay account.

greypoint 27-05-06 15:27

I only buy using Paypal [unless I really want something and it's not a lot of money] and only accept Paypal [unless there's a good reason] - you lose a bit in commission charges but you do have a guarantee.

Saphire 17-06-06 18:53

Another very dodgy ebay all 30d's

I've heard that, as a seller, if your buyer claims not to have recieved the goods, paypal will debit your acount back without any reference to you as the seller. Doesn't seem like much of a guarantee. My preferred method to recieve payment is by direct transfer into my bank account

Christine: Good find. I have reported it just in case you didn't. It is amazing isn't it that it is so obviously a fraud and yet people have been bidding.

Leif

Thanks Leif I never knew you could report the auctions.

You can but it took me a while to work out how. They don't exactly make it easy. Leif
