Image stabilisation on the cheap
Image stabilisation on the cheap, looks like it might just work!

Certainly looks interesting - well worth a try for the cost of a bolt, washer and piece of string. Thanks for posting.

As the man in the video himself says in the posts below the film clip, it's not his own idea but I think it does work. I've seen a similar tip in a photo mag years ago (with a loop at the bottom instead of the washer so that you can slip your foot through).

An inverse mono pod - using tension instead of compression.

will certainly give it a whirl, but find the main problem up on them there hills is wind, so maybe 2 pieces of string and a tent peg?
|
Have folks not seen this done before???...I'm shocked!!!  ...

Blimey I used to use this string technique years ago, but with washing line chord, instead of the washer I had a loop tied in the chord for my foot to go through! |

Yes, I still consider myself one of the younger ones, but this kind of thing is happening more frequently now! Glad a link has been posted with more detail....from memory there was an art to it. The best were the ones with slider arrangements (ie tags borrowed from a tent) so that you could vary the height/length of the string very quickly. Great if you are handing your pocket stabiliser to others of different heights, or want IS when sitting down too! Better with lighter camera/lens kits than with heavier ones as unlike monopods or tripods it doesn't help tired arms |
I think they have stoolen my ideas again...
But to be honest mine didn't work... I use elastic band instead of string.:) |
