Fortnightly Challenge 1st September to midnight 15th September - Sky

Fortnightly Challenge 1st September to midnight 15th September - Sky

Fortnightly Challenge is open to all members of WPF. The challenge will be run on (GMT) time.

Post your photo in this thread any time from 1st September to approx midday 16th September.

Then a 3 day poll will be placed in this thread for voting on the photo you like best in this challenge.

Please give your photo a title.

The winner picks a challenge for the following fortnight and starts a new thread... in case of a draw the majority of members are happy with the 1st entry to start up the new challenge, which saves us having to do another vote.

1. One photo per member
2. To be taken during period stated above
3. The photo must include exif data with date and time
4. Post your entry as one attachment directly in this thread
5. No discussion of entries in the thread
6. Do not post any entries in the gallery until after the voting has finished

To create a poll :
* go to top of thread and in Thread Tools press 'Add a poll to this thread'.
[note: only the starter of this thread can see this option.]
* In the update options box change the number 2 to how many have entered.
* In each box put the title of the entered photos.
* In close poll, put 3 days.
* Submit new poll.

Not much happening so thought I'd play the "banker" shot on 08/09.

DigiDiva 13-09-13 13:02

The skies have been pants round here all week. Im gonna struggle for an entry, however, I am off up the Northumberland coast tomorrow (driving up to Colldstream), having a night in a hotel, then driving back down again. I will do the coastal roads rather than the main road. I might get something nice.

DigiDiva 21-09-13 13:47

Well done John, didn't quite get my vote but was a close second. My vote went to Chimneys in the sky - an unusual take on the theme and I liked thee angle it was taken at. Tha can also count as my 'up' comment, as it was above my entry. My 'down' comment is for the image moon. A nice minimalist image, worked will just not as strong an entry as some of the others this time. Mine was a blag really, I couldn't get a decent sky pic to blagged my beach hut with a little blue sky in it but not really on theme. Will try for a better shot for the next challenge.

Madoldie 21-09-13 20:10

UP-LAST OF THE SUMMER SKY'S-DigiDiva
Like the lines of the decking and also the roofs going off into the distance, thought that the blue of the sky really set off the colours of the yellow and green doors.
A really nice photograph.

Madoldie 21-09-13 20:22

Seeing as I was the final entrant thought that I would comment on the first entry as my down.
DOWN-ROLLING IN-graham harcombe
This photograph got my vote, loved the atmosphere of the composition,PP into black and white just added to this.
Great moody photograph,nice one!!!!!

Peter Waites 22-09-13 09:51

My "down" was Arthurs shot. Perfectly good photograph reflects the difficulty I think we all had finding a suitably dramatic sky. Clive you're a professional - and it shows - almost presumptuous for me to comment. But you did find a way to exploit an ordinary blue sky as did DigiDiva and the image is very well framed.

Tugboat 22-09-13 10:43

my up, marydoll, wonderful sky,,nice scene ...it was a hard comp this fortnight.
my down was, Arthur, another fine shot.just didn't stand out for me.
my vote went to John&me for the beautiful colours in sky on fire.

my own image was out of desperation to put something up for the comp, just trying to think outside the square, no great skies here at the time of the comp....hope I can come up with better for the next comp.

graham harcombe 22-09-13 14:09

A fun competition this one, it was relaxing (for a change) to have a subject that you can get anywhere ...ish. 'Down' from me is the maestro, John with a fine shot. I know you took quite a few shots of this show stopping sunset and this was a worthy choice and I can't offer any criticism.

As the first entry of this comp, I roll over to the last entry for my 'up' critique which is MadOldie's 'Moon'. I did like the lateral thought you put into it, I think everybody else went for clouds so you stand unique. But being critical, I must say that the noise in the shot is too high. To be really effective, a choice would have to be made to provide crystal clarity to either the trees or the moon (I would pick moon) and that's tricky to do. Long exposure using a tripod. But I did like the placement/cropping.

DigiDiva 23-09-13 08:38

So glad you are doing the ups and downs. I think it works really well and help us learn.I also like hearing other peoples take on your photo.

Tugboat 23-09-13 23:52

great idea DigiDiva,my problem is I have trouble with the technical stuff,I know what I like but can't always be helpful with how to make a shot better....it certainly has helped to get people talking a little more, and I also enjoy reading other peoples ideas on a certain image .....we have never had a lot of people join in with the challenge, but I think it helps to get you thinking of something different to do each fortnight,I have always enjoyed the challenges & love trying new things.

Arthur53 24-09-13 11:50

My up Trena A nice photo but more about the child than the sky.
My down Peter nice dramatic sky but like mine did not stand out.

My One Up/One Down...

Peter:- Great sky - very dramatic. For me I'd have like to see a bit more detail in the foreground - see attached quick rework

Digi:- Love beach hut shots & a nice shy in the background. For me these shots work best when the end of the row of huts is in the shot... & ideally something, a person, dog, small child, in the space to stop the eye running out of the picture. Interesting to see you've used left to right leads lines in this one :)

DigiDiva 24-09-13 22:36

Thanks Gidders. Comments are always taken on board and I appreciate what people say about my images. This was a chance stumble upon the huts, however I will visit again with props, maybe one sunny autumn day. I didn't even know they were there. I was excited when I saw them.

Peter Waites 24-09-13 22:49
