Any chance of pointing me to where? I am still on 2 as I find the whole prog an abomination and it wants re-installing to get a 'help' menu.

Do you have the following type toolbar in elements the one highlighted is the clone tool.

Yes - the elements one is similar but without quite as many tools but the clone "stamp" is the same.

No, my tool bar has nothing below the foreground/background colours.

However, I will do a re-install and/or see what further help given on the Adobe web-site. It is very kind of you to help, but please don't take any more time just now. Things that are standard on PC sometimes need a plug-in or some such on mac.

Chris

The clone/stamp tool should appear above the foreground/background colours not below it - see attachment. The buttons below on PS are for quick mask and screen modes

Thank you Clive. The problem with using the PS E2 help was that it goes hunting for Explorer, which I bin whenever I find a copy has sneaked onto my computer, but opening it from Firefox, I have now found the instructions and seen that the 'clone stamp' is an alternative to the 'pattern stamp' tool...however I think I will continue with my own technique which is copying and pasting what I want.

An example below which is a sister shot to

but with the handrail cloned out my way

I do wish you hadn't done that - I was going to bed until I read that :)
