Micro Moths
 

Hi every one,ive been using a canon A95powershot since 2005,it only focuses down to 5cm,whiach isnt bad for macro moths,but not up to micro moths around 5mm long,so ive reversed my old pentax 50mm lens by adapter and reversing ring,which gives pretty good results,but a lot of light and more crucially depth of field is lost,im thinking of trying a old 90mm slr macro lens in reverse,to give a bit more breathing space to camera to subject .is any one using such a combination out there ?

ps the moth is argyresthia brockeela,and that is the normal resting position of this family,pic taken with above setup,all the best Bri.

DOF loss goes with the magnification and larger sensor. You need some method of stopping down manually to help DOF which also incurs the need for more light. Flash I guess which would be best if it is TTL. To get the same magnification with a 90 as with a 50 I think you might need an extension tube as well.

Cheers for that Mike,its swings and roundabouts,any form of flash isnt really a option with this set up,and theres already an adapter tube linking the lens in reverse,which makes all contacts defunct,but at least the prime lens can be stopped right down,and i can use the maximum f8 setting on the camera,its a bit faffy to say the least,im thinkinking of trying a canon G9,focuses closer, 1cm,and would be able to use flash. all the best Bri.
