Burned out Highlights
 
Please can anyone help i am having problems with whites in my photographs being burnt out. How do i rectify this problem?

It would help if you could post an example here so we can see specifically what you mean. The answer could well be different depending on the circumstances.

It will also help if you include details on the metering mode you've used.

Ian it would also help to know what camera your using.

My Canon 20D would tend to blow highlights so I had it set by default to under expose by 1/3 of a stop.

If the camera always burns out highlights then dial in some -ve exposure compensation. The metering mode you use is important and how and where you meter. In some situations the dynamic range is just too great for the camera and either highlights or shadow will have to be wrong and you have to decide which. You also have to learn to recognize the situations where the meter will be fooled. As Duncan says post some examples with details.

I thought that Nikon Cameras gave you perfect images every time :rolleyes:

Well that what the Nikon users try to tell us Canon users :)

Maybe a Nikon D2Xs user can throw some light on the problem.
