Macro + Extension tubes + tc question

1 Attachment(s)
Messing around today with a 100mm macro lens + a full set of extention tubes (67mm) + a 1.4 converter (see the eye of a needle below).

I have been trying to figure out if the order that the tubes and converter were stacked makes a difference to the total magnification. I used the following set-up
Camera > Extension Tubes > converter > lens. Would it make any difference if I fit the converter first and the the tubes and lens?

Impressive magnification Roy.

Does the order make a difference ? ...... Yes.

For max magnification you got it the right way round. ..... Lens - tubes - converter. If the converter is placed before the tubes it increases the focal length of the lens. So in your case would have had the equivalent of around 150mm lens + tubes. Greater working distance but less magnification.
