Monitor - One NOT to Buy.

Dear all,

I hope I have put this in the correct thread.

18 months ago I purchased a LaCie Electron Blue 22in monitor costing over £500 a lot of money for a CRT but it carries the reputation of being the graphic designer’s tool.

No 1. Failed after 6 months
No 2. Didn’t work at all.

After weeks of correspondence LaCie agreed to send a brand new one to which I was entitled in their terms of waranty (No2 was reconditioned).

No3 was not brand new, was filthy dirty, stunk of cigarette smoke and chips, and yes, you’ve guessed – it didn’t work. This carried an engineer’s certification that it had been inspected and met the colour standard before despatch.

No 4, which was brand new, failed after two months.

It has taken many letters and phone calls and threats of legal action finally to get a refund.

You have been warned.

G B-S.

I was thinking of getting a LaCie hard drive, but after this info on cutomer support I don't think I will, chears.

I've got one of thier hard drives - I just hope I don't need customer support after that story.

G B-S - maybe an email to them, with a link to this thread will show them the sort of bad PR a poor customer support team gives :D

Hard Drives stick with the majors, Western Digital, Maxxtor or Seagate.

we've used lacie drives at work in the past ,1 word awful 2 out of 5 failed and they are dreadfully slow stick to your known brands imo seagate are the most reliable

Ouch...sounds like they're going to loose future business. It's true what is said about poor service, and 6x potential customers told, verses, good service and 2x told.

I'm going through something similar with Vodafone 3G at the moment, except I haven't even received anything yet.!! On four separate occassions now I've been told the unit is in dispatch and will be with me the following day. I wish they'd be honest and tell me they're out of stock, it's gonna be on back order and it'll take another week....but unfortunately they don't. dou!

I can second this, I've had a problem with a lacie drive (my first and last one) but my Western Digital is doing fine so far.

Sorry to hear about your experience G B-S, can I ask what monitor have you got now?
