temporary files

I have just run an anti-virus scan (which was clear) but it showed hell of a lot of "Temporary Internet files" do I need to get rid of these? if so how do I do that?

Easy... click Tools -> Internet Options under the general tab and half way down is temporary Internet files. Choose Delete and if doing so you may experience a long wait or I do anyway while the system delete all those files.

If cookies are deleted then site related things such as information since last visit will be reset. I personally leave cookies but its not strictly detrimental to delete them.

Thanks I think I'll leave them for now

Cheers

Your computer has a portion of its drive allocated to keeping cookies and temporary files if this fills up to its maximum you would not be able to access the net as it would not have enough room to save more cookies as they are only a few kb it takes hell of a lot to fill it up.So deleting temp files and cookies now and again does help. The only thing that happens when cookies are deleted is it takes a few seconds longer to access a site you have used before than it would if you had the cookie for that site installed.Hope this helps explain it Phill.

I always delete temporary internet files whenever I disconnect from the net.

I leave cookies alone because they also contain the files that mean you don't have to enter your password every time you log onto sites such as this one (do you know your password for this site?) I'm not sure whether there's a way of deleting cookies without getting rid of these 'essential' files
