can i use old nikon lenses on a d300s?
 
hi i have a number of old nikon lenses forn the 70 s and want to use them on a d300s when i get it :)

is it possible to use the exposure meter on the camera with these?

The d300s has Nikon AFS , Nikon AFD lens fitting, so you will have to find out what fitment your old lenses have, even if they are not the same you might be able to get a converter for them, I can’t help with the exposure because I don’t have any Nikon gear.

As your lenses are from the 1970's they could be PreAI or AI.

DO NOT attempt to use PreAI as they will damage the meter prong.

If they are AI then they will meter with the D300s once they are programmed in. The D300s will allow programming of up to ten AI or AIs lenses.

I think it would be well worth your while looking at a thread I did in the Lens Forum - The Ins and Outs of the Nikon Mount, as that should answer all your questions.
