When looking up local history I found digitised old postcards of local views. Fun to see what had changed and what was the same.

Fascinating on so many fronts. Gosh we are so lucky today, instant playback and retake immediately if necessary, yet there is a certain magic about the old photographs. Keep 'em coming Don.

Haha. This is an area of photography that I really should have participated in. Mind you I suppose I do have a bit of an excuse having moved around a fair bit.
On the subject I have photographed three postcards of Wendover in Buckinghamshire. My grandmother was born there and thats why I found the cards in an album. Unfortunately the older ones were keepsakes when she moved to Africa, and are not postmarked so I have no idea when the photo's were taken. Probably in the region of 1910 to 1914 though. Postmark on the newer High Street view does not show the year but is probably early 1960's.

I just love the Villiage Pump one though. :)

Things do change very rapidly, one of my roles in photographing historic buildings was to record those threatened with demolition. Here today, and possibly hundreds of years previously, but gone tomorrow. Thankfully all those records were made on large format silver based emulsion which will be secured in the archive for a few hundred years or more.
