Canon 7D firmware upgrade.

Canon have announced a firmware upgrade for the 7D available from August
Full details can be seen on the link below
To be honest the only aspect that really caught my eye was the increased RAW burst up from 15 fps to 25.
For me on camera editing does not interest me
But there is more, hope the link helps all with the 7D

Apart from the increased RAW burst the other thing that might be useful is the ability for some control of the Auto ISO parameters.
Why anyone might want to shoot RAW and then edit on the cameras screen is beyond me, surely a job to be done on a big screen.

The rumour mill had been active on this upgrade for some time prior to Canons announcement.

The main benefit for me will be as Mike suggested, the ability to control the auto Iso parameters. It is/was a total waste of time as it always defaulted to an high ISO. Tried it once in the early days, never bothered since.

Would like the increase in raw burst for Sunday, It would have come in handy for the Red Arrows.

Wow, I do NOT like this.
First you download a zip file which contains a F.I.R file that windows does not recognise - further investigation shows Internet companies who provide software to read the FIR file. Don't go there !!!!!
Five times I tried to download a compatible file, five times windows failed to identify, even using my wife's older laptop .
If Canon really think this upgrade is worth having, make it work
Me........I'll stick to the current settings that work just fine.

The FIR file is the one you want but you do not need to open it on your computer, just copy the file to a CF card and pop it in your camera. Make sure your battery is charged and the go into the menu and through to firmware, then click to upgrade. Within the download there is a PDF with instructions on how to do it.

You need to format the CF card first in camera then proceed as above (read those instructions first) then remember to reformat the card again afterwards. Vital to make sure the battery is fully charged first!
